And more junk.

That tire held air overnight but is probably destined to be tubed in the near future.

I took Diana's Murray back to her place today and mowed the small west yard. Seemed to do a good job. Too bad it sits outside. I might go ahead and put the carb kit in it too at some point. The gas could be getting in the oil due to a leaky needle. I shut off the fuel valve and let it run out of gas. Going to cut off a few tree limbs for her too, Maybe Friday. Sounds like rain tomorrow.

Came back to the shop and lowered the lift to work on the MF1450. Some of you may remember that the machinist at my former workplace built a solid driveshaft to replace the wobbly Lovejoy coupling that was on it.

I need to do some dirtwork in the front yard where the waterline was dug in last winter, and the three point will make it easier. Went in pretty well but still couldn't line up a couple of bolt holes. It dawned on me to look at the carrier bearing mount. Sure enough it is slotted. I loosened it up and it moved into place on it's own. of course tightening the last bolt the ratchet slipped and I sliced my left arm! This old pile of $h!t has more jagged metal on it than any tractor I have ever worked on! Seems like every time I work on it I draw blood---LOL! Decided that was enough for today. Maybe will start it tomorrow and see if there is less vibration.

I'm thinking about drilling a zirk into that shaft to grease the splines from the inside out. Will have to build a shield over it as grease will sling right up into my face! Can't afford to buy a used original plastic tunnel cover. They sell at ridiculous prices on epay. Probably have to do it like the dash. I had to build it out of 1/8" aluminum.

hopefully more tomorrow.

Use a piece old old guttering for the shaft cover. Older round or the new K type will work. Or even the round down spout split. Piece of 3" plastic water line is another way out. I split 2" and REC slides it over the power lines for me where they run through the trees at the house.

Those are good ideas, Rog. Thank you! Don't have any old gutter or downspout around here. I do have some 3" pvc. No good mounting provisions though. The mounts are there to cover the hole where the original plastic cover used to be and I have plenty of 1/8" aluminum. Hauled home old signs from scrap at work when they changed them all. Could even use sheet metal I suppose.

Had doc appt this morning and some in the house chores to do when I got home. Had to go to the $h!t plant to buy some eggs from a former co worker at noon. Have to catch up on the plant news of course!

Got home had lunch and headed to the shop to tackle the other old washing machine.

Still don't have a good battery in the MF1450 so I gave it a boost to go out and get the other machine. It fell off the drag a couple times. I should have strapped it down. The leg with the wringer and agitator mechanism box on it is really heavy. I should have backed in but decided I should use the bridge crane to lift that heavy piece of crap around. Was pretty easy to drag. Trying to save wear and tear on my back.

Used the hoist to turn it upright after getting the guts pulled out of it. Lots of broken bolts but some loosened just fine. Some of the cast iron brackets were broken too an fell off. Took the lid off too. Had to drill new holes in the tub to support that wringer post. Bolts were gone and wouldn't line back up to the original holes, even beating and prying. One of the holes had corroded out to about an inch or bigger anyway.

Found a pot that may fit that square hole but was tired and have a damm sore toe and back for some reason. Will have to set it on paver pieces and level too. Round pot but can't do much about that!

Maybe will get that done tomorrow and possibly mow.

Carolyn has 4 or5 set of wash tubs, double tub type and a single. I cut 2 X 6 treated into 6' squares. Then drill a 1.5" hole about 3/4 inch deep in the center. We put one of these under each leg of the tubs. Once set they stay put in the wind or even bumped with a mower deck.

Don't be so hard on yourself. Let me do the kicking.
Was the car a 2dr or 4dr? Did you happen to ask the guy what he would want for the DeSoto outright?
You will need a 400 mile long leg to do the kicking but I feel it already, Chris---LOL! It was a 2dr sedan. Didn't discuss any money. He seemed to be in a hurry. Maybe he will be at the Fleet Farm car show Saturday.

That treated 2x6 probably works better than what I did Rog. The wheels are all froze up on these things but being in a hole like you did would be much better. Will probably do something like that when this area gets the pea gravel widened out. Probably won't be this year.

Had some non tractor or yard related stuff to do for awhile today for the racing Hall of Fame group I am a member of. Got to the shop and turned the MF1450 around after lifting the aluminum tub machine up with the bridge crane hoist.
IMG_2709.jpg

Used my head for more than a hat rack this time and strapped it to the drag.

Got it unloaded and walked it to the location it goes at. I had already smoothed the dirt and gravel out. Lifted and pushed pieces of pavers under the legs. Found a plastic pot I was able to force into it. Had to scoop dirt and dump dirt out of it into the yard trailer to deform it enough to shove in the square hole. Good thing as it looks like it was mostly clay rather than good dirt anyway.
IMG_2712.jpg

The yellow looking dirt is the clay.
IMG_2714.jpg

Pulled the trailer around on the concrete and shoveled the dirt from the rotted wooden barrel halves into it. Much better looking dirt.
IMG_2713.jpg

Loaded both pots.

IMG_2716.jpg

Took what was left and dumped in the dirt pile out front that will be spread and used to fill some holes around the yard later.
IMG_2718.jpg

The redneck tube patch on the trailer is still holding---LOL! Will get a real patch kit at Fleet Farm Saturday.
