What are you currently working on??

Set the Kohler back in the cub 2166. all bolted down, everything hooked up, fresh fuel in a clean tank, charged battery put in, - NOTHING.
Dead as a door nail. Got to digging around with the wiring and found two wire ends, a red with white stripe and an orange. Just sticking out of the loom. Now to figure out where they are supposed to go. Then found gas dripping from the frame near the LR tire. Will run a full new line from the tank to the pump tomorrow. Fun, fun when idiots mess with tractors, leave them exposed to the elements then lie about them.

Please let us know what you find. If it happens on my 12G it would be nice to know!

Thanks---DAC
I will let you know, has me stumped for the moment. I tried to look at it tonight but still no luck. On Sat I plan on dropping the mower deck off of the tractor and then lifting up the front end to get a good look underneath. Right now all I can go by are pictures that I took when redoing my MF12.

Sound like a the variable pulleys are not moving. They get dry and hang up. Hopefully a bit of oil will fix your right up.
The variable pulley is moving in the center like it is suppose to and the idler pulley at the back is working. It will have to wait until Sat before I can get a good look at it.

My project yesterday, fuel pump in the Fireturd. Factory lasted 161k, never get below 1/4 tank. Cut an access door in trunk, easy peasy. Closed it back up with piece of heating duct/self tapers and foil duct tape

Got the axle back under the cub and everything back together. Mowed for about 5 min and RF tire went flat. Back it to the machine shed to air it up enough to get it to the shop. No go. valve steam broke off at the tube. Put in a tubeless steam, greased the rim and back together. Slow rim leak and sidewall leak. Put in a bottle of slime. Took care of both leaks. Mowed for about 15 min and suddenly the engine acted like it was only running on two, then died. Restarted, ran for about 3 min and died again. Put it in the machine shed. Acted up last time I mow. Cleaned the filter but that looked OK. Sound like the injectors need rebuilt. Tractor had about 780 hours when the hour meter quit before I bought it. Run another 75 since then so who know how many hours is on it. Going to pull the injectors and run them over to Precision Diesel and have them rebuilt. If it ain't one thing it's another.

I found out what the issue is :) right behind the adjuster nut, which is behind the plate just under the steering wheel, there is to be a washer and a snap ring. The snap ring is gone :(, to replace it the adjuster nut has to come off all the way and then I should be able to put a new snap ring on. I was trying to copy and past a picture from the parts book but no luck and it is bed time.

Playing with the JD 112 seat today! It needs replaced, but I'm to cheap for that.

Found some Fusion Yellow at Ace Hardware that looked close, so I thought why not! Taped things off and gave it a good coat!

We'll see how that lasts! While in there, I cleaned up the springs and recoated them. They had green over spray all over them.

Thank-you! I've adjusted that a couple of times since I got my 12G in 2011. New belts once and a new engine with a slightly different pulley location once. If that issue arises, I'll know where to look first!

For a 50 cent part it sure causes a lot of headaches. It is not fun to put back together either, all the parts get attached to #24 except 31. #24 gets put back in over a pivot shaft and then #31 goes in and the adjusting nut will pull #31 in to position. There is a bolt with a self locking nut that goes thru #31 and to get to it the middle belt pulley has to come off the shaft. Took me about 40 minutes but it is done now, I am going to go thru the belt and brake adjustment steps on Saturday. The parking brake is not working like it should. Ted

Last night, put the new tie rod ends on (because I got a case of the "might as well's) put the new front brakes and rotors on,
today I took Dakota for alignment, I miss the days of being the alignment guy.... never thought Id see the day where a front end alignment (with NO provision for rear adjustment) and no calls saying that parts need replaced before it could even BE aligned, (I remember having to make a few of those calls myself, along with lots of show and tell from beneath the rack) would cost $85.00. YIKES!
still gotta replace the pass side headlight with the new (not cloudy) one that I have, put the bezel back on over it, cut a new plastic vapor barrier to go onto that passenger door, screw the speaker back in, hook up the wiring to the power windows, mirror and lock plunger, put the inner door panel back on and the kick panel trim and threshold back on.... and that job's done.
also went with wife to knee Dr appointment (good thing I did/ they drained a bunch of fluid while I watched--- I didn't feel a thing) we thought this would be the last Dr followup since her knee surgery back in May but now he wants to see her "1 more time" ( this visit was supposed to be that "1 last time") and picked up my new fridge from Lowe's, had the kid come over and help me get it off of my truck and into place, cleaned up the spot the old one sat for the past 20 years, took down a cabinet (new one is taller-- didn't look taller, when we picked out the one my wife wanted) then took the old one outside, made a dust storm when I blew out the cooling fins beneath it with the air hose, (didn't think it would be nearly that bad, I vacuum it out with the shop vac 4-6 times a year) then pulled all the shelves and drawers, fired up the power washer and blasted it inside and out, and took it over to my kid's house, he has been wanting an "extra" fridge since he bought his house.
This fridge is only 0.7 cu ft bigger than the old one it replaced (negligible going from 22 cu ft to 22.7 cu ft) but the standup freezer I got last Sunday is MUCH bigger than the old one it replaced.... this one is 17.some cu ft, I'm guessing the old one is around 13 cu ft, it isn't listed on there anywhere.
They had a 13.some and a 14.some cu foot model next to this one but in the store this one "looked" to be about the same as the old one...
but oddly enough, the 2 smaller ones were the same money as the one I wound up getting.... (the 2 they had in this size range, was on a lot more of a sale than the smaller ones) I got the "mid size" ones, the 2 bigger were definitely too big for the spot I have available to put this freezer.
Being as how my (only) kid has left the nest this new freezer is definitely overkill for lust the wife and me.
and THEN got stuck sitting thru a movie at the movie house, my wife has had this bug lately, has a craving for going to the movies/ with me or without me..... couldn't get anything done sitting there/ I have never been a big "movie guy"

Got the fuel line run and some other odd and ends. Engine fired up finally after I traced out the wires, put a jumper in place of the PTO switch. Tried to release the brake and it would die. Finally figured out the seat switch connection has to be broken, like when the seat is occupied for it to stay running. Hydro is good but now the engine wants to surge at all speeds. Non-adjustable carb which is new. Don't know what I did or din't do but something messed it up. Ran nice yesterday. SAM has power so not that. Back to the drawing board but time for a cool one to think things out a little first.

Not getting much work done at all. Came home from work with sore feet. Wife and daughter went to the wife's sister's lake cabin for the weekend and daughter dropped off her cat for me to babysit. She is heading to Minneapolis Monday but the wife will be back then so me and the cat won't be batching it. Plan to tinker in the shop and maybe pull the blower housing off the engine in the 12G for a cleaning. It's about time for the mid season oil change too I suppose.

Pulled the carb off the Kohler. Had some junk in the bowl. Sprayed cleaner through all the little holes, etc. I could find. Then blew it out with air and put it back together. Fired off with some gas sprayed in the carb. Still done the surging bit but would smooth out and run good with choke about 3/4 on. Got to be a fuel issue in the carb. Will take it back off again and let the carb cleaner sit in it for a bit while I find a tiny wire to work in the holes. Single strand out of a small stranded usually works fairly good.

Got a mess handed to me today! Guy needs a new fuel tank in a JD LA105. Gotta take the dash apart to get the fender pan off to get the fuel tank out! How stupid is that? Tank is under the seat! Way to go JD designers! Oh, by the way, a new tank is $120!

Sounds as bad as working on some cars. Ya spend more time taking apart and putting back together than you do actually replacing the item that is broken.

Throwaway tractors they don’t want them repaired. Not designed to last more than 5 years . Guess mother Deere has forgotten were they came from and is only worried about the corporate dollar . What a shame.
