What are you currently working on??

Got my tail lights switched around to the protected (and in the way if using a 3 point attachment) position.
Hardware store did not have rubber or plastic plugs big enough for the outside wire access hole that is now abandoned. 1&1/8”

They did have the chrome style, so that’s what it got:

The new hole I drilled was 3/4”. That allows me to install a rubber grommet big enough to get the connector pushed through, but still small enough to fit inside the opening in the tail light housing.

The hardware store does not carry rubber pass thru plugs. It’s like a grommet with a rubber flap over the center opening that has a slit in it to pass the wire thru. The bottom hole is also 1&1/8”. I will order those thru McMaster Carr the next time I need something from them.

All finished.

Got back to work on the Speedex S18. It came here with a Briggs engine of unknown H.P., and recoil start.. I have a 10 H.P. Kohler on the bench and decided to swap it in place of the Briggs. Of course the bolt pattern for mounting the Kohler was different from the Briggs plus I needed to shift the Kohler to the left for clearance on the frame. The belt tightening on this unit is done by sliding the engine forward, I made an adaptor plate to mount the Kohler base to the Briggs hole pattern on the slider plates. Once mounted to the tractor the crankshaft centerline was in the same vertical plane as the Briggs had been and just 1/2" higher on the horizontal plane. That should not present any problem with the belt and pulley reinstallation. I test fit the hood and it will fit over the Kohler but may not leave room for the gas tank. I still need to locate a battery and some kind of dash panel.

I need to reroute the exhaust on the Speedex. That necessitated removing the pipe stub in the block.
I made cross cuts in the pipe down to the block.
Then with a little work using a hammer, chisel, and channel locks the old piece came out.

My $550 2008 Chevy Trailblazer. PO said it would sometimes lose oil pressure, this is a common problem with them as oil pickup screen is very small and gets clogged easily. Mechanic quoted $2500 to drop oil pan and clean or replace pickup. In GM's wonderful wisdom (that's sarcasm ;)) they mounted the front differential to the oil pan and the front driveshafts go through the oil pan. Both sides of suspension has to be removed along with differential, crossmembers and steering rack to remove oil pan.
Also if you want to replace oil pump, all that plus the entire front timing cover, AC, alternator etc has to be removed since pump sits behind the timing cover.....what idiot engineers.
I found out the oil pressure switch is just a on/off switch, the computer "guesses" the oil pressure. I will be adding a new switch and also a mechanical gauge to see what is going on....if it actually loses pressure or if computer has developed a glitch.
Also needs power steering lines, brakes, a new rim and some other stuff, body and frame are in great shape, wife has already claimed it.
