What are you currently working on??

Got a call to come check out a couple Cub Cadets. Brother and I went over and ending up buying them. He picked up a 2186 with a 20 hp Kohler twin. I grabbed a 2135 with a 13 hp Kohler single.
The 2186 had about 600 hours, but it ran good. It didn't steer well at all, and was very very very slow in reverse. The gear at the bottom of the steering column was worn and would only occasionally engage the sector gear. After removing the battery and a cover screen it was a matter of removing two 1/4-20 bolts and lifting the column. The gear fell off the end off the steering shaft. The replacement gear was only $15.00. Reassembled the steering , battery and cover. Took it for a test drive and liked the results.
The fix for reverse was a matter of adjusting the linkage for the f/r pedal. It now goes fast in reverse. The mower deck functioned but was not anything to brag about. Also added a front bumper with a 2" ball.
While I was doing this my brother went on vacation!!!
The 2135 has an issue on starting. Seems like it is starving for fuel on startup but runs well after finally starting. It will eventually start if it is at full throttle and full choke. I took the carb off and cleaned it and set the float. Still not good. I checked the fuel pump and it is pushing fuel to the carb. I tried using a "China clone" carb and got the same results. I may try an electric pump. The engine has about 500 hrs. but runs well when it finally starts. I mowed with it to test it. Nothing here to brag about either. Both decks could use new blades.
Just realized i don't have pics of the 2135, but if you squint a little bit it looks a lot like the 2186 with smaller tires.

Hurting.
I went to a huge car show and swap meet today, walking up n down the aisles I am not kidding (although I didn't have a step-counter on me) I'd bet I walked 7-8 miles at least, show was huge. Was mentioned by the DJ /MC they had that official count was 772 vehicles in the show portion which didn't count the swap or "car corral" section.
I saw a few things I thought about buying but didn't want to carry it that far. I just got a couple of small things.
Things I passed on included a slider window for my project truck. Went hoping to find interior parts for it like door panels.
I did find my kid a nice dash bezel and switches for his project. I ran into my kid several times throughout the day, I wish I'd known where he had parked like a couple of hours before I found out that info, his truck was way closer to the swap area than mine was. Wife is probably happy for that fact though since I didn't spend much at all as a result. She was at work during the time. So not there to jab me and make me "not" get something had I wanted to. At the end of the day I met up with the kid again and we walked back to where he had parked his Ramcharger,
and I kid you not I was parked a good mile away. The show/swap was at a neighboring county's fairgrounds.
One which I'd driven past numerous times over the years but had never actually been "to".
When I finally did get back to my truck I discovered some empty spots further out but they'd all emptied out before I got there, my truck was the farthest vehicle away from where the action was. Absolutely nobody was parked further out than I was ... When I'd gotten there there had been people behind me that parked further away but somehow they were all gone before I got back to my truck.
Once I parked and got down into the swap area when I first got there, where all the "action" was there were signs for a shuttle to the parking area, they had the local school district's whole fleet of "short" buses handling that duty. By the time I left I discovered they had beat me to doing so.
Here's what I don't get... I walk on my feet,so how is it that my shoulders are the most sore? I didn't carry anything back with me, or anything. The couple things I bought went home with my kid except for 1 thing that actually fit in my pocket. That being a brand new replacement robinair low side gauge, for my AC gauge manifold.

CR I have an 1862 with a Kohler Magnum that is hard to start cold. I am thinking it is not holding gas to the carb when it is shut off. Gas drains back to the tank. Going to put a shut off close to the carb and see if that helps. Mine will fire right off once it is warmed up good, like a stop to refuel, etc.

Happy Anniversary!
Enjoy the Anniversary time with your wife.

Happy Anniversary Doug to you and yours. Sounds like it’s going to be some well deserved time off and fun for both of you.
Happy Anniversary to both of you.

I had to have my break line replaced a few years ago on my 99 GMC, so far I don't have a problem with the gas lines.
Thanks, Guys! I will do a different post in the off Topic section.

I had to go to the doc in town today driving the '06 Denali. Thought I smelled hot electrical a couple times. Got there a bit early and finally looked at the gauges. Volt meter was past pegged! Over 19 volts! Shut it off and did a quick start which still worked normally. After a few seconds the gauge buried itself again! Was worried about getting home without blowing up the battery but it did fine on the 15 mile drive. Popped the hood and felt the battery and it was cool at least. Looks like i will have to pick up an alternator tomorrow. Hope the battery survived! It's about a year old.

That happened to my wife once with a 2010 Dodge Journey she had. Got about a half mile from home and the battery exploded. I had to pull her home the rest of the way. Had a lot of clean-up with baking soda water after that mess! Worst part was there was a noise about a week prior. I took it to the dealer she bought it at. I told them the alternator is noisy. They said no, it's an idler pulley. Was waiting the two weeks for one to come in at the dealer when I got to call them and cancel the idler pulley order because I was right about the alternator, but believed their troubleshooting!

Had a Datsun that started charging at 19V about 250 miles from home. Turned on every thing that would burn electricity. That brought it down to 14.5. Made it home OK.
Before that I had a Toyota I noticed the gauge pegged. Started checking things out and found the battery nearly boiled dry. Guess I hadn't been paying attention.

Wood cutting today. Woo hoo. So cut some 8’ logs into blocks, moved the blocks to the splitting pile with the pickaroons, hooked the trailer to the MF 16, backed the trailer to the splitting pile, split some wood an put it into trailer. Then used the MF 7 to cut grass. Lowered the deck and blew all the cut grass away from the house. Might help keep the mice away. That was my day.

I split a Ranger box full this morning and carried it into the mud room. Didn't get any split small enough for fire starters yet. Been looking at buying an electric spliter to put in the mud room. Can split the small stuff as I need it and be a lot faster than doing it with the big spliter.

Thought you were on vacation 3 weeks ago ? To do your wood. That I won’t do. Hehe. Did Fiona screw that up.
Ya I’m gittin tired. Poor old fella like me.

Noel
Nope I get 5 weeks, each time I take a week it's 12 days. I'm off again from December 18th til the 29th. Wood is done & in but I'd like to get 4-5 cords of hardwood to finish next next year's now.
No progress on the blower after Fiona & I start block 2 of Machinist next week...never enough time ugh.

Rarely split any thing small any more. Whenever I fry something I wipe the pan out with a paper towel before washing it. Those paper towels are the best fire starters I have ever used. Put two chunks of wood in the stove with a greasy paper towel between them and light the towel. It has never failed me so far.
