What are you currently working on??

Everything has to have WiFi now days. When our gas stove went down only thing we could find was electric glass top. Carolyn hated it from day one. Way to slow to heat up and hold the heat way to long. When we found a 3 yo gas stove that needed gone in 2 days we got it. Gave the glass top away just to get rid of the it. Lot of cookware that cannot be used on a glass top where everything can be used on gas. Love my old cast iron skillet.
Hold your hand about 3" palm down over the heat source count the seconds until you have to pull your hand away.:D:D
Does that apply to a gas stove also ? ?

@#$% *&#% stupid red paint..
I took the blade off of the D160 to repair it and relace the scraper edge. while I had it apart I repainted it also. Nice shiny red!
Today I put the blade back on the tractor. Went to move it and it wouldn't start. No response at all to turning the ignition key.
Nothing had been done to it since I removed the blade. All I could figure was the red paint had an adverse effect on the tractor.
After some cussing and searching and cussing and tracing wires I found that one of the wires on the back of the ammeter had come loose.
Don't know how the red paint managed to do that! Or why it came loose just sitting there.
Since this unit will be used on a gravel driveway I put a piece of PVC over the edge. That 56" blade should move some snow!!
If I end up keeping this tractor over the winter I may start repainting it a piece at a time.

Works good at a campfire.

I don’t know what his will do but ours has an app on the phone. You can turn it on/Off. Preheat. Turn the temp down. Etc. rarely ever use it. Sometimes we will kick the over on the preheat on our way home to speed up dinner. Also has temp probes that you can see on the app
That’s the way our stove and fridge are too. They are actually called smart appliances that have a lot of features when it comes to being remotely controlled, energy efficient, and diagnosing problems. They are not much different than any other smart devices.

Our fridge does the same. It has a spot for milk that must weigh it and you can see on the app how much milk you have. I don’t mess with either much. As long as one makes my food hot and one makes it cold I’m happy.

Tractor was jealous of the paint on the blade!

I don't get into any of that "SMART" stuff. Don't have any use for a smart phone other than taking pictures and then only bvecause it is lighter than a regular camera. All of this smart stuff is born in China. If they ever want to take over the US all they have to do is pull the plug THEY control over all the smart stuff. "Smart" oriented Americans will be running around like a chicken with their head cut off as their phone won't be able to tell them what to do or which way to turn.

I was a flipper phone till this year. Only use the smarty pants phone for calls/text/camera like you. Less is best in my book. The phone came with weather app, so it's there on the front screen. Much of the time its wrong. LOL

Now the calculator is handy, the clock has a stopwatch, the dark mode is helpful, but the app store notifications I had to turn off or limit the notices. I peek, but don't load any of the crap. Well, this weeks new app is TV-remote. Nope, got no need for that either.

I like this forum because much of the equipment spoken on here is NOT computer equipped. In the past 3 years, on the other tractor forums, those who bought new tractors are waiting on parts or repairs due to supply shortages or some dumb software update to remove the limp mode problem or stuck in a DEF cycle. What ever happen to the KISS method?

Thinking on this reminds me of the Styx song called Mr. Roboto. Too much technology, machines to save our lives, machines DEHUMANIZE. Bada-dum.

As for these newly fangled washers, they don't clean the clothes due to little water and run over an hour to make the meter run faster! Are we a stupid society to believe technology is saving our lives? Whatever happened to the 25min full wash cycle of the 90s and really clean clothes????

The last washer and dryer we bought was a speed queen. Basically the same thing as the laundromat has but no coin box. We've had this set longer than the last set already and zero problems at all.
Our last 2 sets were supposed to be top of the line, all kinds of fancy gizmos and such, but nothing but junk. The 1at set was Amana and we had to get the whole cabinet replaced (fortunately under warranty) due to rust issues, and one of the biggest draws to choosing that machine was "heavy duty" stainless wash tub. The transmission also went out on it shortly after the rusty cabinet issue. We tried to get them to simply exchange it and they said that Amana wouldn't go for it even though it would actually be cheaper for them than the cabinet plus all the labor to swap everything over that the company has to pay the appliance dealer in the warranty claim. Then we went to a whirlpool, the one with the "clear top" door, and no spinner sticking out of the middle of the tub, plus it was a "H-E" (hi efficiency) that we had to only buy certain detergent that was compatible, all that .. this thing had 2 pumps in it, this was the first time we ever got the extra warranty on an appliance, and we definitely got our money's worth on that .. though as time went on the warranty company added hoops and bells and whistles that I had to jump thru to get them to acknowledge that they even existed and that yes we did pay for the warranty but it wasn't long after that ran out and that set was at the curb.
All the years growing up across from this one family I remember the mom over there always raving about her speed queen to my mom...
So we decided to try one this latest go round. No extra bells and whistles that weren't needed back in the 70s and 80s (they still aren't) and it just plain works. Maybe some brands are what they used to be?

I was surprised to find out how many of the brands of old have been bought up by whirlpool even though they are still marketed as the brand we've known for years but are really a whirlpool regardless of what sticker was next to the control head......

Wasn't MH81 our resident washer and dryer specialist in these forums?

Hehe. When I had my own propane business I was selling stoves and dryers and such. One stove that came that I ordered came with two or three brand name stickers. So you could put what ever brand name on the stove that you wanted.
I did warranty work for Sears at that time, sure wasn’t hard to figure why they went out of business, any way, had to do a warranty call on a stainless steel panelled stove. When I got there the complaint was the broiler door was rusted. It was. Ordered a new panel for it.

My sister in law is using a 1960 used propane stove that I got for her twenty years ago. Still works great.

Did you notice an increase in failures when furnaces went from just thermocouples and pilot lights to circuit boards and electric ignition?

At my old house the natural gas furnace was from the 70s. It never failed me other than than the fire box failed (after nearly 40 years. I can accept that) Replaced it with a new one with circuit boards and more wires than I would think possible. I only lived there one winter but had 3 service calls on it!

My oil furnace was the same way at this house. Darn thing has had 4 circuit boards replaced since 2015 when it was installed.

Yes Arron. And trying to get parts was a hassle. I would at some points would take the modules apart and fix them, to get things going, until the new part came. Some times I could not get them working either. But was worth a try.
And the people who engineer this stuff are brainwashed into thinking it’s good for every thing. Saves fuel and the environment. Hehe. You’d spend more money on replacing modules and circuit boards, service calls, than what the pilot light burns over time. And there are more leaks in propane and natural gas systems than a pilot would ever burn. Filling propane trucks and tanks releases a lot of fuel into the air. And where do these bad modules and circuit boards go. Ya, right in the garbage. How is that saving the environment.

Any way, I’ll stop my rant.

I will guarantee that government has a lot to do with these type of things becoming mandatory in appliances, just like they have done with the auto industry. Saving the world is most of the time a massive backfire.
