What are you currently working on??

C'mon 3:30
It's lunchtime, actually got out a bit late today...
I'm already beat, I think some of that was left over from yesterday.
2 days and counting, mounting a huge pile of semi tires ..... Yesterday started out with some 445-width " super singles", basically mud tires for the shop's FWD. Today I just finished up with 8, 11 R 22.5 mudders for one of our tandem axle dump / plow trucks. Take the same120 psi, but 1/2 the time to air up vs the super singles.... The afternoon should be easy, as long as no $#1t hits the fan while I'm across the road at lunch....
I have 1 more 11r 22.5 drive to do for another IDOT yard, and a pair of 315/80 22.5 steers for yet another IDOT yard.... At least those 3 aren't on the trucks, just dropped off loose on rims. It was sarcastically "fun", getting those super singles back on the truck and bolted up/ once I got them mounted..
I'm just so glad I don't have to slap hammer the beads apart, like I did at the job I had from 94-05.... And spoon them on and off the rims.... And no split rims any more ....
I used to do a lot of them with the rim still bolted to the trucks ....

What happened to the Super Single semi tires. I haven’t noticed many of them on trucks anymore.

I dunno. I see em around here once in a while. .the truck I put those in is a '84,International pay star 5000 4 wd, has these at all 4 corners... The ones I took off are older than Y2K, going by the DOT numbers on them.... The replacements were marked exactly the same size as what came off but the old ones all said "super single" where the new ones didn't.
4 tires, $6k worth of rubber

Here's a shocker for you all,.....I had to work on another one of my Chryslers:rolleyes:
Daughter came home Thursday from work, said the Liberty was shaking like the motor was going to fall out. I took her up the road, shaking under load, went away for the most part off throttle. After I got home from work Friday, slid under and sure enough both front and rear ujoints on the driveshaft had play. When I tore it apart, 1 cap on each end was empty, not a single needed bearing in sight.
I thought they were factory but I think I've replaced them once already. I never greased them as they have a flat grease fitting....
Does that take a special needle or adapter? New ones have it also.
Got it all back together and she is back on the road. Paid double at Advance Auto for the same parts I could have gotten shipped from Rockauto, but needed them that day.

I showed the daughter and explained it to her....."Would that have made a squeaking noise? It's been squeaking since you changed the heater core weeks ago.".......DOH!!! Gotta love kids.

Yup there are a couple of grease needles available for those.
And it was just a set of u joints.... I lost count as to how many I've replaced.
Ya want to see something retarded/stupid?
Look under any F150 newer than about 04 that has a 2 pc driveshaft with a carrier bearing.
They put the bearing on and then welded the yoke "backwards" of how they have been done for years.
You need a carrier bearing? You need a complete driveshaft assembly,. Last I knew even Rock auto was around $600
If you get an aftermarket version though, it will be made like carrier bearing drive lines have been made for years and if needed down the road from them, you can replace just that carrier bearing.

With the way they flop around, if you have to change that center u joint on one of those original style shafts it is a royal pain.

I wish all of them would bring back some of the tried and true engineering of the past. Not all of it but at least some. .
One thing I am having a really hard time figuring out is why they decided that strut suspension was ok for a truck..... Idiots. I see lots and lots of busted front springs, on newer Ford trucks. And lots of other idiocy. Check engine light for the gas cap DOOR on a late model Taurus...gas cap was there and tight.... .. How does that effect emissions, or the running of the engine?
Check engine light for things having to do with the radio... More unneeded "monitoring"....

Me and my dad just finished putting a new axle on our snowmobile trailer yesterday. I noticed a hole rotted in the old one when I was washing it over the summer. Apparently they only made these trailers for a short time, so it was hard to find any parts. We finally found the correct axle, and it said about 26 weeks for delivery. We ended up finding another one that was a little shorter, but close enough to make it work, and it only took about a week to get it. We just had to make two brackets to bolt it to. 2 years ago, we put a new floor on and rewired it, it’s like a brand new trailer now. We’re all ready to go riding, now we just need some snow.

I went out the other day to start my DA and it wouldn't start and had a leak at the filter. Yesterday I changed the filter and it started right up after I charged the battery as I left the key on. Today I will take it out to the farm where I hunt and put it in the barn so I can ride it back to the woods on Saturday.

I used to get that Loose Gas Cap light on my 04 Avalanche. Bought a new gas cap and didn't stop it. Then the light quit coming one. Get a check engine light for a fuel air filter of some kind. Haven't found anyone that knows where it is at or what the part number is to change it.

Well---no tractor work going on, but I did get to use some crapsmanship today! We inherited a spoiled rotten house cat several years ago that is a big fat slob. A "normal" litterbox won't work as she figures out how to pee outside of it and the litter gets kicked out too. We tried covered ones and she must pee like a male cat as it would run down the sides on the outside. A couple of years ago we decided to cut a hole in a 45 gallon storage tote! It worked great, but started cracking in the bottom. Patched it with duct tape until we could get a new one. We bought another one before Christmas, but I hadn't gotten time until today to cut the hole in it. It is identical to the old one so no before pictures needed.

Marked out a 10"x10" hole, 6'1/2" off the floor.

Got the antique "HF Multi Tool" out to cut the hole. This one was one of the first they had. Single speed.
DSCN4983.JPG

Buzzed the hole out with the sawblade.
DSCN4984.JPG

De-burred and sanded the edges cleaned up the layout marks.

The hard part was busting down the old one to fit in the outside garbage can. Had to take the old DeWalt reciprocating saw after it.
The cat has probably took a couple of dumps in it by now----LOL!

Thought you guys might get a laugh out of some of the dumb jobs I get to do---LOL!

We have an old outdoor cat similar. Carolyn put a 4" deep pan out in the garage for him with litter in it. After it is used a few times he just goes where ever he wants. Been going outside in the deal leaves now that the snow is gone once again. Nothing stinks worse than cat poop.
Never heard of an outdoor cat needing a litter box

Worked some yesterday on a reptile enclosure for one of our snakes.
Made a new under tank hearing mat. I finished it by covering connections with liquid tape and after it dried, I covered them all with electric tape.
For those who don't know, the back lines are an electric activated ink that heats up. It will be hooked to a thermostat so it doesn't burn snake. These are used widely in the reptile industry.

Fellow trustee asked me to look at the water heater after services today. I found this, was dripping from the side.

After the Bengals game, I decided to go fix it since I do not have any evenings open this week. I found this on the backside and when I went to bleed the air off of it, I got water so bladder was torn also. Good thing I got it changed.

This one stayed in the garage a lot -is a fairly good mouser, or at least was. Litter box was trying to keep him from pooping where ever he wanted and keep us from stepping in it.
Our Pyrenees cross killed 5 or 6 of our better cats that stayed in the lower buildings. After they were gone the rats and mice started showing up.
