What are you currently working on??

So, ran into a problem with the Ferguson tractor engine. The pistons are four ring pistons. There are five ring pistons also. I don’t which was early or late production ones or if that is the case. Or different manufactures of pistons. Any way, from what I know the five ring piston set is the only one available. If you have the four ring piston, you just don’t use number 3 compression ring, in the five ring set. So the four ring piston has two compression rings, 1 and 2, then two oil rings, 3 and 4. So number 4 oil ring in the five ring set is suppose to go into number 3 oil ring groove on the four ring piston.
It does not fit. Groove is 5/32, ring is 3/16.:rolleyes::eek:o_O:(

If they have a tendency to blow away I would want the corner facing the prevailing wind for aerodynamic effect.
The prevailing wind is normally out of the WSW so the one corner was into the wind but that wind was out of the south so it caught the door and the fence was directly north from it. The shed had set there for about 10 or 12 years and the floor was starting to rot some.

you talking about underneath? I have a bunch of treated "feet" screwed across the middle and front and back. The concrete pads are on the corners and also a few in the middle.
I needed something cheap, it will work for what I need for a few years. Most of the stuff needs to be gone through and frankly, gotten rid of.

I guess I don't follow you ref: the feet. Yes I was talking about under the side 2x4's . Sounds like you have it under control.

Today I have to pull the seat pan on the JD 265 and fix an issue I had yesterday. When I got there and backed off the trailer, the shifter linkage came apart. It had unscrewed itself from the dampener and fell out. I tried to put it back together from underneath, but just too hard to get two hands in there. I managed to just get a nut on it so I could mow. Here's a pic of the attachment configuration:

While in there, I need to lube things well again and adjust the brake a bit tighter. Then I'll take the covers off the mower deck and clean that out. Then grease the spindles and whatever else I can get to.

I took things apart and was able to get the shifter linkage hooked back like it's supposed to be. Also got the brakes adjusted better.

Turned my attention to the deck lift linkage. I thought the front was way low and found the issue. The front links had worn the holes out badly, so I made some 1/4" blocks to tighten that up some. I have all the adjustment out of the front links.

That helped a bunch! So I pulled the deck pulley covers and found a mess!

Cleaned that all out and replaced the covers. All that's left is to pull the carb and clean it out as it it is surging real bad. Cannot find any adjustment screws anywhere.

Get a ring cutting tool to open the thing up as you most likely won't find a correct set of rings for it.. Consult a machinist to rework the ring grooves for ya.. (Try to get the correct ring set first)..

Cub Cadet Snow Thrower: Will check with the welding/Fabrications shop today and see if got that left hand thread drive belt tensioner free. I tried heat and soaking in PB but could only get it to move about 1/8th turn. Belt was ordered and in at NAPA. Hopefully can get it back together again. Chute needs sand blasting BAD. That might get done too today.

Things didn't work out the way we planned. The belt tension left hand threaded rod was froze solid in the block. Got it to turn about 1/4 turn and that was it. Welded a nut on the handle and tried an impact with heat. Twisted the rod off at the pin for the inside castle nut.
This is what I got back. SAM_0853.JPG

Decided to build one from scratch. See no reason for left hand thread on this piece. found a hard 1/2" bolt that was the right length. There is a bolt witha washer welded to the bottom side of the nut that slides in the slot.
SAM_0854.JPG Ground the threads out of a 1/2" nut, then drilled through the nut and the bolt just inside the frame. Got the chute cleaned up and waxed up good. Rest of the unit looks rough with all the rust spots but looks don't throw snow.

I have this can of Johnson's Paste floor wax that I have used on table saw, band saw tables and a lot of other surfaces in the wood shop. I don't know how long the wax will last but if we don't get any more snow this year then we have the last 3 it will last for several years. Have put a thrower on for the last several years and haven't used it in the last 3. To cold for paint outside but could bring it inside I guess. I have some Velspar Hi Gloss Enamel that is brush on only I may try.

I took the carb off the JD 265 yesterday. Tore it down and it needs a kit. Went looking and found a new carb for $40 so I just ordered it. This one had water in it yet in the accelerator part. and that would take a kit to fix. New carb comes with clamps, filter, and a shut-off.

I have to say this is a STRONG mower now. Even with the carb issues, I was mowing tall, heavy grass with no RPM loss.

I spent some time yesterday to put on a new chain and sprockets on the Haban blower for my wifes tractor. Sprocket parts are NLA so had to make them. Original is #41 chain and sprockets and when I got the blower they were on their last limb. The chain snapped at the end of the season and the sprockets were so toasted that I wanted to wait to do the whole assembly.

Now I have another one to do.

Finished going through the A42 snow thrower by International this morning. Had to build a new belt tightener from parts & pieces I had around. Mounted on the front of the Cub 1512 and tried it out. Run good. not undue noise. Gear box, chain & sprockets, etc. were all good. Had to work a while on the augur to get it straightened out like it was supposed to be. Waiting for the usable snow now, but really don't care if I don't use it.

Replaced the impeller on a Cyclone Leaf Rake, and straightened the mower deck on a newer Craftsman lawn tractor. The mower deck had been bent when a friend’s “helper” was mowing for her. Hit something solid and bent the leading edge of the deck enough to hit the blade. All good now!
