What are you currently working on??

I will hopefully get my Cub Cadet 123 out of the shed and see if I can get the steering knuckles formed back to the way they should be. P.O. must have hit something, tried to “fix” it..... but it was a poor attempt. It really messes with the steering.

(I need to get it working better..... with any luck I will be selling the 123 w/mower deck and #1 tiller soon..... after I get a Wheel Horse C160 brought home...... it has a mower deck, tiller, aerator, and cultivator attachments. Will allow me to sell the 123 and a Craftsman GT6000..... finally a little room in the shed!)

Got it out and I think I made the steering better! It got dark too soon! Had to jump-start the 123..... battery is on the charger now. Was good to hear it fire up and run! This 123 is one of my favorites, and I will miss it if I sell it. Tiller works real well and is what I keep on the tractor. Sometime when I can, I will remove the tiller and put the deck on it. I like mowing the yard with it, just because it is different!

Lance, looks don't cut grass. Mine has a bunch of rust painted over too. To many leave the spindle covers on and never clean under them. When you put that deck on, I would put the mule drive and sub frame up under the tractor first. Put a floor jack under the front and lift it about 6" and the deck will slide under clearing the wheels. After you put it on and off a few times it will be a lot easier. I had to drop everything off to replace the starter. Will have some pics of that operation this evening I hope. Starter supposed to be here today.

I'll be cleaning up the mess from splitting wood yesterday afternoon. I'm using an FF/20 with my fork lift attachment. I'm a little stiff, but not hurting from that workout!

I wont bother putting the deck on the 127 for now, the tractor is already advertised for sale and with winter around the corner the blade is likely what will attract buyers, and some might not even want the deck, or it could sit here until spring and then the deck might be what sells it, I never know so I offer whatever attachments I have, if a buyer doesnt want certain attachments then I store them for future projects or sell them seperately. I think this deck came with one of the two 126s I had last year, one of those sold with a tiller and snow thrower, the other was traded off without the engine.

Not sure yet what the next project will be, only one left here that could move snow is an MTD 960 which Ive never tried to start. Thats basically the same tractor as my Columbia so I have several attachments for those but if the engine is bad I dont have another one to put in it.... unless I pull it from the Columbia... which I have thought about because I'd like to put a twin in it someday.

JD 317 might be an easy fix, its runs and drives but has electrical issues, wont start with the key, but just has a mower deck. Also have a JD 314 with tiller and deck but Ive never tried to start it...decisions decisions??

Did the starter update on the Cub 1512. Read several posts on the procedure as well a watched a couple U-Tube videos so had a good idea of what it all entailed. I bought an after market starter with a 1 year warranty. I don't think all the hi torque starters are built the same as there were a few things that worked on mine that siad it wouldn't and vise versa. I did not have to get at the bottom motor mount bolts from the bottom. Raised the engine enough all 4 came out from the side. The 1-1/4" hole they say to cut in the motor mounts for the power stud clearance was not big enough for the terminal end on my cable. No big deal as I cut it larger with the torch. Cables were all plenty long so no re-routing or lengthening needed. The front right hand motor mount bolt had to have 3 spacers put on below the bottom bracket to keep the bolt from contacting the starter. Still got full nut threads. Really made a big difference with that starter in there. Well worth the cost and time.

I have a right angle gearbox off a QL but I its the rear one for a tiller and Ive been told that they dont have the same ratio. Jacobsens used the same gearbox on their blowers so that might be an option altho Im not sure if the ratio is the same or not.

Mine has the 20 T gear on the input shaft and a 24 T gear on the output. Not quite a 1:1 but close.

That’s a great deal on the 127. Around here they would want 1500 or more for a set up like that. They may not get that. But that’s what they’d be askin.

Ya lots of people ask stupid $$$ but I highly doubt they get it, unless some rookie comes along that doesnt know any better, I price them so they sell, asked $800 and got it so Im happy... on to the next adventure ;)

chieffan... not sure on the exact ratio on this gearbox here but I can take it apart if your interested in it

So got the new timing chain for the Ferguson tractor engine. And got it installed. New front crank seal in the timing chain cover and cover installed. On to finding the rods and pistons. Have to put the pistons on the rods. Have to figure out the direction each goes.

Wet and miserable outside so in the shop. Got a QA 42 International snow thrower with a 1650 I got earlier this year, motorless. Getting it straightened and freed up to go on the 1512. Mechanically in good shape just looks like they run it in a rock quarry. Nothing a big crescent wrench, couple hammers, blue wrench and wire welder won't take care of. And lost of noise too.

Belt tension rod is seized up solid on the drive for the snow thrower. Got it to move about 1/8th turn with heat and that was all. Left hand thread or would just cut it out and make a new one. May do that yet and make a new adjusting block too. Don' know why it is left hand. Only difference is you have to turn it the opposite way for right hand. Have it soaking with PB Blaster on it. Will see what it does in the morning.
