What are you currently working on??

Whatever I had done on the roper got disassembled this morning. Temps were in the 40’s so I pressure washed the tractor.
Rolled it back inside and let it dry. This afternoon I put it back together. Then installed the battery and wiring and ignition switch. The gas tank and shut off valve. Waiting for more gas line tomorrow. Hooked up the throttle, and choke cables.
Tomorrow hopefully after the gas line and new idler pulley get here I may have a runner.
Eyeballing what seat to use and where/how to locate it. I mounted the battery and gas tank high. For now I can mount barbell weights under them. But have an idea of locating a hydraulic pump/tank in that spot.
Debating as to what set of tires will go on this one. 23x10.50, 25x 10.50, 26x12x12.
So far the only parts bought are a belt, idler pulley, gas line.

Worked on my FF24 today, I never put the seat pan and shifter panel after I cleaned the gas tank. Hadn't started it in a couple months, took a bit to get gas to carb. I had it running good last time, but it was dying and surging some at high rpm. I put new fuel in it along with some Berryman's and it cleaned up. I also washed it since it was warm.

I also started up my other 2 Sears along with the Durango and my trailblazer, both of them need sold.

Also worked some on the carport, installed some blocking so I can get the house wrap on hopefully tomorrow.

2002 SLT I think with the 4.7. She runs like crap, a lifter has started making noise and getting rusty. I haven't driven it in 6 months, I gotta sell it soon once I clean out all my tools..
OH, I recall our talk on this now. It has the 4.7L with the hollow cam/crank shaft.

The engine design came from the old old old Corsair V8 engines. What were they even thinking . . .

In fact, the cams, being hollow, are used to bring oil to the intake lobes, which have oiling holes. Cam (valve) covers are cast magnesium.
4.7 Liter Next Generation/Corsair V8 Engines (Dodge - Jeep)

Unlike the 318cid/5.2L that could reach about 500,000 miles of life, the 4.7L is a throw away engine,
The engine is designed to operate 150,000 miles (240,000 km) under normal conditions with only normal maintenance.
(same link at the engine)

After 2008, Mopar engines other than the HEMI became crappy. The 3.6L VVT is another bad example. And don't get me going on those crappy CVTs.

If MOPAR came out with a modern slant-6, and bullet proof, it would sell really well. In fact, more people with a RAM 1500 would choose it. The slant-6 has so much upgrade potential.

Put the Roper on the back burner for now.
A Rural King store about 25 miles from me is closing down. Everything is marked way down.
They had 6 volt deep cycle golf cart batteries for 50% off. I pulled the trigger and bought 6 to replace the ones in my Electrak E-14. Those have been in there since June of 2015. The batteries were marked down to $119.99. And I got them at half that price. $60 each. I was planning on selling a garden tractor this spring and buying batteries then. But couldn’t pass up this deal.
Moved the electrak onto the table under the hoist and started replacing batteries. Had to stop in the middle of everything and take one battery back. It had a small leak at the top seam. Will finish it and have more picture’s tomorrow.

You got a steal on those Trojan batteries..

With this unit functional again I installed the dozer bracket and blade.
After removing the mower bracket (pic 1) from the front installed the doze bracket (pic2) into the slots in the front of the frame.(pic3). Then attached the dozer blade.

Yup I've been in that rural King a few times since they said it was going away. When they still had more stock I did much of my Christmas shopping there.
Managed to buy Rustoleum paint at $1.99 a can. Most of the “tractor paint “ was gone .
$100 normally —50 pound bags of grass seed for $18. Bought 5 bags for the Cemetery District.
One for myself. Never use it all but couldn’t get a 5 pound bag for that price.

I bought 1 bag of grass seed 2 trips ago, they were out of everything but straight ryegrass the last time thru.
Had an employee tell me they were planning on staying open til 1/31. I don't think they have enough merchandise to justify that.

Though I stopped by the store in Champaign the same day as I was last at the store in Rantoul that's closing, I heard at the Rantoul store that they're merging with Champaign, and I had a guy at Champaign tell me that they're trying to treat Rantoul like a "clearance outlet store" til the end sending clearance merchandise there from surrounding stores and the Champaign guy didn't think that was gonna be sustainable for that long... Champaign did verify that the 2 locations were combining.

Had to work 10 hrs today during plant shutdown, us volunteers get to clean all the CNC lathes and mills.
It was nice outside when I got home so I decided to clean my sister's van headlights. She is in Vegas visiting a friend and I have her van, the headlights are pretty glazed. I started with 220 grit, worked up to 2500. Then I got out my cotton polishing pad with the white rouge for aluminum and did a final polish. Not the best and you can see tons of microcracks, but maybe she can see now

All polished up, look foggy in pics, but they are clear now.

They look better than when you started, I’m curious to see how long it will take for her to notice. I bet she will definitely appreciate it though. I still have to do this trick to my headlights too but I been procrastinating.

Finally got around to polishing the left side of ol yeller today after 2 weeks of rain, dialysis, Christmas, and a little bit of procrastinating. Its not wiring time JUUSST yet, BUT we’re gettin closer. I don’t know if you can see much of a difference, but it looks much better and shinier in person than it does in pictures. I will give it a look over in the daytime to see how it looks and see if I missed any spots, give it another polish if I have to, then if I don’t have to polish it again I will start cleaning all the access compound and polish off where I got it on the rest of the tractor that I didn’t want to… then it will be onto wiring.

I have 2. An 01 with a 360 and 314,000 miles, I put a used motor in at 260k... Motor has about 185k now. Starting to show it's age though on the body, but my wife still bugging me to slap the rebuilt trans I have had here for a while as she still likes it better than the 03 sxt with a 4.7 and less than half the miles and better body... That I bought after the trans quit on the 01. It's been good to us but she still wants the hi mile 01 back. Says the seats hurt in the 03. 01 has leather, 03 are cloth.
03 body is in much better shape.
