What are you currently working on??

I'd love to see a photo of that plane. Can't find any photos on line.

My mistake. J3 Piper Cub. It’s a Prospector model. A guy contacted wife who is writing a book on the Prospectors and pointed out the planes # identify it as a Prospector built in Hamilton Ontario. He also pointed out only 3 left still flying. The late owner Jim Murphy (left)owned the plane and used it for his tourist lodge. His twin brother Jack re-skinnned plane few years back Jack was helicopter pilot. My wife worked with Jack flying Secorscies back and forth to oil rigs off Newfoundland’s coast819AF408-7C91-444C-B478-022A822ADC72.jpegAF2F4461-F99F-464F-A3BF-907010713BCE.jpeg

New to me Wheel Horse C160: draining the 8-speed transmission. Looks like the oil has never been changed, but it doesn’t look like it has any moisture in it.... that’s good. Will keep a catch pan under it overnight.

Got it drained, rinsed (diesel), drained, and filled with new gear oil. New belt for the tiller (Gates B139) arrived and will get installed sometime tomorrow, I hope.

Back on the Ranger some. Had to adjust the idel way down so it would shift into High range. Replacement tail light assembly came so put that in. Replaced a sanp on the right door so it can be held closed (Soft side). Waiting for brake parts to rebuild the back brakes but that won't happen for a week or more.

yeah I'm fed up with fed ex.... I know that I won't use them if I am the sender.

We used to have a problem with Fed -X. One package they bounced back and forth between KC, Ka. and St Jo, Mo. 4 days till they finally got it here. (100 miles North of St Jo.) Couple other times they just tossed the package on the walk to the back door or along side the drive. Now we get super good service. Just had to get hold of the right person. This info is from a year ago so keep that in mind. Person you want to talk to is Brittany. 1-800-463-3339. Don't know where that number is at but it sure got us results.

Parcel delivery drivers always set package inside my back gate. They usually knock but these guys are paid by volume so usually not wasting any time
One driver always tries to hunt me down to see what’s going on in garage. Sometimes he hangs about for 20 minutes showing pics of what he has come across on deliveries whether old cars, trucks, you name it. He’s definitely a anomaly

Run the Ranger up on ramps to remove the front blade mount. I can't even see the nuts let alone get anything on them. Bolts just spin so time for the blue wrench. Took about 5 min for that job. Longer to get the hoses run out and put back than to do the job. At least it is off and with the blade for sale.

Tires on the ranger have seen better days. Have 2 80% tread for the front and 2 6 pl;y 50% tread for the rear. 2 brake rotors be here today and tomorrow the hub should be here. Need a bit warmer temps so I can keep the shop warm enough to work in there.

BIG side job on an F150.... I don't take on many side jobs any more for this reason. "I JUST need you to do this" always turns into a full blown overhaul...
on this one... my buddy wanted me to R&R the trans, send it out for rebuilding..... well that turned into
--front spring broke driver side whoever decided that struts like a wrong wheel drive car, on a 4wd full frame 1/2 ton pickup definitely had their head up their arse when they designed that setup
--rear axle seals blown E brake shoes saturated and separating from shoe backings
--alternator seized up solid, case cracked
--original tires from 2003 dry rotted bad enough to barely hold air long enough to get it pushed into my garage
--pass front window reg was busted before it got here, driver one busted on me as I steered it off the trailer
--front rotors rusted bad enough that wheels wouldn't spin w/o pushing back calipers, rotors below spec (brand new pads though!)
--rear pads coming apart from the steel backing (looked brand new though)
--Replace belt, tensioner and idlers
-- upper ball joints shot (means replace control arms)
--fuel pump control module back on the frame all rotted away and calcified to oblivion, common issue with aluminum bolted to steel
--never had a tuneup from new, see if I can get the damn plugs out of this miserable 5.4 "only" 68K original miles though, newest license sticker expired in 2013..... I have had it running, starts right up and sounds strong ("for a Ford")

got the trans back yesterday and up in the truck, also T case back bolted to trans, have window regs, tuneup, and rear brake pads left besides putting the starter back in, driveshafts, trans cooler lines, exh hanger and fix a couple of vacuum lines that mice have had their way with....
had 3 boxes show up here from Rock Auto, plus a few trips to local Federated auto parts store so far

Took the Gator to the far today for some timber thinning. A few small tasks done in the cabin. After noon I headed for the IH dealer to check on Cubby, done. So I brought the Gator home, unloaded & headed back to bring Cubby home. Ordered new rear turfs for him on the way home. Shuffled some tractors around to get Cubby in where I could take the wheels off for the new tires.

I'M POOPED!!!

PB Blaster to the rescue ! When I bought the EK 10 it had the back end pulley flange broke off about 1/2 way around. Was really chewing away on the belt. Been spraying it with the PB for about 3 weeks now. Every day at least a couple shots in the set screw holes, motor shaft and back end of the pulley. Decided today I see if it was loose. 2' pry bar between the engine case and the pulley and little tug and it moved. Couple more times and it was off the shaft. Didn't get a pic as the camera was in the house. Run it in to a friend that has a welding shop. We decided to spot weld a washer the same size as the outside of the pulley to the pulley. He is going to fill the void in with nickle rod, then I can file it back to the bevel it should be. Will get some pics before I work on it and it goes back on the machine.

Just pulled this into the shop this evening. Been setting unused inside for years. Neighbor wants to sell it and asked if I could get it running for him.
He brought it over last fall but I wasn't feeling well enough to work on it. Time to get it going so we can get it out by the road for sale. Hoping it doesn't take much as it was running (sort of) when he dropped it off. Gas smells terrible.

I picked up a pair of used tires for my ranger. 80% tread and real good aggressive tread mounted on Polaris wheels. Figured I could take the old ones off and bolt the replacements on. Wrong ! The wheels the replacement tires were on were for a 4 wheeler and would not owrk on the front of my Ranger. Different offset and the wheel & tire bound against the strut. So had the fun of dismounting 4 tires and putting the replacements on my rims and then put them on the Ranger. Mission accomplished. Tomorrow I might tackle the left rear hub removal to replace the brake rotor.

Offsets are such a pain. So many vehicle rims are vehicle specific. Not like it used to be when a Ford rim could be mounted on any year or model ford.
