What are you currently working on??

I have a Wheel Horse C141. Been fussing with it off and on for awhile. The 14 hp Kohler is worn out.
Decided to replace it with a Briggs 18hp v twin. Engine swap has gone fairly easy. Was pleasantly surprised to have the hood fit over the twin. Before removing the Kohler I took several measurements off the centerline of the crankshaft and the clutch disc.
Managed to get the Briggs into the same position. Needed a 1” to 1 1/8” adapter sleeve to fit the clutch assembly onto the Briggs. Everything else fit right up.
Tomorrow I will replace the ignition switch and wiring. Reroute the oil drain. Hook up fuel line,
The oil filter and housing on this particular engine hangs to the outside of the engine. Right in the way of the belt routing to the mule drive. I found a new housing that moves the filter to the opposite direction. It will be here in a few days. Then with a new filter and oil I should have a runner.

It was very dry looking in Iowa and Missouri when we drove through there Thursday and yesterday Rog. We hit several rain squalls driving home from Sioux Falls today, but the wind with them was awful. Hope some of that rain reaches you.

Rains have all been North or South of us. Boy drives a dump truck for a construction outfit in the Des Moines area. They are not going to try to start till May 1srt due to the wet ground and we cannot get a drop. Neighbor put up 3000 tons of silage last fall and is wishing he would have chopped another 1000 ton as he may have to feed cattle all summer. It is serious for sure.

You guys that have these horizontal crank V-twins laying around waiting for projects make me jealous! Especially when it fits without butchering up the outer body panels, Rick! I think it would be fun to do a swap like that.

If you are going to part out the Kohler let me know, please!

Yes, it sounds serious Rog. Sure hoping some rain heads your way soon!

The oil filter housing showed up today. Installed it and rerouted the oil drain. Removed the leaky easy drain petcock and pipe fitting. Resealed and installed the fitting pointing the other direction. Added. 5” nipple and cap. Filter now points the other direction and no longer interferes with the mule drive belt routing.
Removed the old style point/coil system ignition switch. Replaced it with one for a newer magneto system. Replaced the wiring. Now I am waiting on a new fuel pump. Hopefully get the fuel system buttoned up tomorrow. Plan on swapping out the seat and wheels/tires.

I actually worked on a couple of tractors today. First I put new headlights in the MF8E using a couple of GE ones that came with the goodies Rick sent. I would have changed just one but the "Guide" ones in the tractor had a lot different prism so thought they may look different too.
After I took the whole assembly out to push out the old and put in the new it dawned on my that they probably would have pushed in and out still installed! Oh well I have to do things the hard way it seems.
IMG_2429.jpg

Fortunately the 60 year old rubber mounts are still nice and soft.

These are the "Guide" ones that may have been original to the tractor. Can tell which one is fried.
IMG_2430.jpg

These are the "GE" ones installed.
IMG_2432.jpg

They light up nicely. No I don't ever plan on plowing in the dark, but since they are there, they just as well work!
IMG_2435.jpg

Don't care about having LED ones.

Then the MF12G was the next victim. I moved out the bridge crane to where the 12G can be hooked to the new to me electric hoist. I've been wanting to play with it!

Raised the front up to get at the links for the deck. This design is so simple to unhook the links that it sure makes me wonder what the h@!! other manufacturers were thinking making them so dang difficult. Pull 3 cotter or hair pins and one spring pin!
IMG_2437.jpg

IMG_2438.jpg

Sat it back down and slid the deck out from under it then hooked the winch to it.
IMG_2439.jpg

Rolled the tree trimming trailer under it and sat the deck on it.
IMG_2440.jpg

Raised up the lift and can now take the deck outside to clean and bring it back in to weld that crack. Will lube the spindles and rollers along with sharpening the blades.
IMG_2441.jpg
Before the deck goes back on the zirks will get greased and transaxle checked. When this one is ready to mow the GT5000 will get serviced. That thing is a nightmare to pull the deck off of.

Shopping for new leaf springs and scouting for the last few front end parts I'm gonna need for my truck project. Rock auto only had 1 of the 4 tie rod ends in a reputable brand at the moment so I had to revert to eBay. Can't afford napa, O'Reilly's, advance etc prices. Got all 4 for what any of those places want for 1.

While I talk to the sandblaster guys about "when" they can get my project in, and whether they want everything at once or if they want it in sections, along with whether they want it as a rolling frame or whether they want it the rest of the way apart.... got my trans, Bell housing and flywheel here, (from 2 different places) and the clutch kit is on its way from rock auto.
Tractor wise if the weather cooperates I will have that varmint infested K301 and cub cadet 1200 back together by the end of the weekend.

Got a new fuel pump, filter and hoses installed. Finished up the wiring, and installed a new battery. Put in fresh oil. Cranked it up long enough to put fuel in the carburetor and she fired fight off. Problem is only on one cylinder. Got a new coil coming tomorrow along with two mufflers and a 1 1/8 drill bit.
So today I swapped the rear tires and rims. Used a 7/16-20 tap to chase the threads in the hubs. Then installed bolts from the back side with lock washers and loc-tite. Mounted the rims with chrome nuts. Plan on painting the front rims to match.
Replaced the 23x8:50-12 with 24x12-12.

Early this morning I cleaned, prepped and painted the front rims. Later after all the festivities, and finding the Amazon deliveries on the porch, I installed the mufflers. Ordered two mufflers with 1 1/4 npt. Bought two 1 1/4-3/8 npt fittings.
The exhaust pipes measured just under 1 1/8”. Bored out the 3/8 side of the fitting to 1 1/8”, slipped over the pipe and tacked welded in place. Put the front wheels back on. Should get the new coil on tomorrow.

Got the coil installed. Set the idle. Been driving it around. Now that it is running I realize it needs a new idler pulley.
Need to get some taillights. I have a sleeve hitch and a slot hitch for this. But no attachments.

Pretty much just mowed last night, I mowed and edged at my niece's, then edged my BIL's since he's on the way home, then home to cut up my large tree limb that was down, got a fire in the firepit going and burnt up all the limbs. While the fire was going, I mowed the back yard, stopping and stoking the fire until now more limbs.
I slept pretty good last night.

I finished stripping my truck frame last night, got the shocks off and all the brake/fuel lines, shocks, brake proportioning valve and the remnants of the exhaust hangers got it up on my kids trailer and he hauled it to the sandblaster guy today...
We left it as a roller for now cuz we don't have the forklift like the sandblaster guy does...

Been busy with rock auto and eBay lately... Got my clutch kit and my front end parts (ball joints, tie rod ends etc) yesterday. Shopping for new rear leaf springs now..
The cheapest places I found recently , have the craziest shipping $$... I've ordered springs for other vehicles before. Have ordered online as
much cheaper than local/ but with recent shipping costs local is still higher but not by much. I've used a place in KC and another out of PA before,
Gotta get help to load the cab on my trailer and bring it home and cut out the teeny auto trans tunnel and weld in the bigger one the stick shift trucks used... then it goes to blasting.
I've missed having a 3/4 ton.

Probably a bad idea with me just 2 weeks out of my transplant surgery, but I worked on the tractors a little bit. Nothing at all strenuous though. Today I put some seafoam in the gas tank and in where the spark plug goes in my yellow 6 horsepower Craftsman and the hydro. I put the seafoam in the gas tanks and let them run for 15 minutes each, then I put the seafoam in the where the plugs go and let the seafoam sit in there for an hour and 15 minutes, then I let them run again for another 15 minutes. However it doesn’t seem like it did anything, so that said I put more seafoam in where the plugs go again and I am planning on letting them sit overnight into tomorrow. Is that a good idea?

I hear mixed reviews on seafoam, I hear it works very good with what I would like to do with it but then I hear it doesn’t work so good and that Gumout is better. My stepdad says that he does not believe in these “magic cures” as he calls them, but I will try my luck with this stuff then that will likely be it unless someone else has another suggestion. I don’t want to take them apart if I don’t have too.
