What did you do with your tractor today?

Hehe. Garden tractor does farm tractor work. Splitting wood today with the Case 224. Got some done. RPMs at 2500 to 2600. Hydraulic oil temperature at 120F. Worked great. Was fun to do. This old splitter was 3 point hitch model when built and hooked to farm tractor hydraulics.

Back at the wood cutting Monday. Depending on weather.

Do yas think the Case will get along with 3 MF garden tractors for a few days

Doug. The deck on your 669 MTD tractor looks the same as a MF 7 or an 8. They cut some nice. And I would say it has the same transmission. From what I can see.

Noel
It might be the same deck Noel. Two gearboxes with a driveshaft between. Have to time the blades. Unfortunately at one time in the early 1990's the splines stripped out on the shaft. The coupler got welded to the shaft by a friend. I had no welder and few tools even then. I wouldn't know about the transmission. It cut well from what I remember but it's been a long time. Engine was rebuilt one time by a small engine shop 30 years ago or longer also. Probably tired again.

Tractors aren't prejudice, but some tractor owners are---LOL! I remember you had a couple tractors get to know each other a little better over a couple of beers several years ago. Maybe that will help this situation---LOL!

Ya that was a bad trouble with those decks Doug. I drilled mine two years ago or so and put pins thru those couplers. Worked good. But then started breaking a pin. Same one each time. Never did figure that out yet. But the tractor and and deck are not in use, yet , this year.

Put my 782 to work tamping down mole runs. We recently received the attention of a mole family. I will tamp down the runs and then set th trap in any old ones that reappear. We caught one mole already. A large one about 6inches long. We are still trying to get another one that doesn’t seem to reuse a run very often.

Anyone have any good home remedies?

Went out this morning and found new runs. Set the trap and wait. Never know if or when they use that run again
My trap is effective if they do. Picture shows it set. Those blades scissor towards each other when it goes off.

Hope you get them varmints, Rick! I never had moles but now and then we get some Voles. Sounds like they feed similar. They like some small worm in sod. I didn't try to poison them though. Went to TSC and bought varmint smoke bombs.

After the snow melted they augured under the concrete slab of my shop and the floor of a couple sheds. Figured I had them cornered enough to get them dead!

Found what looked like the main entrance and set up a pipe to drop the smoke to them. Ran around plugging any holes smoke came out of.

That was 8 years ago and we haven't had any since. Weather conditions may not have been right since then, but so far, so good.

Put the 782 on mole run duty again this morning. Had not done it for a couple days. Been hoping to trap the critter. Yesterday morning I saw a new run, but it also looked like something had dug up part of a run. Hopefully the neighbor,s dog, or one of the many feral cats around here got to it. With everything packed down today we will see if any new runs pop up.

That’s a good possibility that a cat got it. Our kids had a cat years ago that thing was a hunter. He was always getting moles, mice, and garter snakes. I can’t believe Rick you haven’t included any of the old Caddyshack clips in your thread. Lol

Neighbor land owner had a thistle patch that needed cutting 2 months ago. Tackled the job this morning around 10:30. Real thick grass and thistle 5' high or more. Grass was damp enough next to the ground kept plunging the cycle. After one round and 4 plugs I gave it up as a bad idea. Need a big tractor with a bush hog to take it down. Bar mowers were not made for that kind of cutting.

Mowed with the Craftsman GT5000. Ran the deck up onto the edge of a little hill in the back yard which lifted the LR tire. Had to shut down the deck, get off the tractor holding the seat down as the seat switch still works, put it in reverse and pull the tractor back enough for it to get the tire back on the ground. Floating decks won't do that. Went on uneventful to finish mowing. Sprayed weeds after that.

Started out with the string trimmer because the grass was still too wet from a small shower overnight at 11:00 this morning. I mowed for about an hour and threw a PTO belt. I put that back on then did it again a half hour later. I really like the rear fender pan lift on the Simplicity 3415H. I watched the belt for a moment and noticed my idler pulley was sitting too far outside causing the belt to ride on the inside edge. I removed the pulley and spacer then replaced the spacer with three washers bringing the pulley in about a 1/4” allowing the belt to travel dead center. Finished up around 2:30 got a shower, ate, and done nothing the rest of the day.
