What did you do with your tractor today?

I haven’t had much seat time lately all I’ve been doing lately is processing beans and tomatoes. I did use the MTD 990 to clean out the chicken coop yesterday. I normally use my Sears SS15 for this but it was missing a little last time I used it, probably needs a tune up.

To hot to do much of anything outside. My Minneapolis Moline 110 died last week and wouldn't start. I checked the spark and it was irradict so I put on a new condenser. Spark was better but still no start even with starting fluid. I bought a leak down tester a month ago. I put the tester on, major leak on the intake valve. The engine is installed so the valves are on the backside next to the dash. Time to pull the engine and do a rebuild.

I used my Cub with the reel mowers to cut grass over the weekend. A little big for the yard, but it did a good job, and was fun. I used the 1810 to cut the areas I couldn’t get to with the Cub. No pictures, but I also used the sickle mower to cut the weeds along the sides of our road.

That was Carols custom design using a few plans she liked. What I like is the what they call “ The Deep Litter Method” in the coop. Add a few inches of bedding every couple of weeks and clean out once a year. It’s like a giant liter box.
When I was on the farm, we use their "deep liter method" for bedding. We used ground corn cobs as all the corn was ear picked back then so always had a lot of corn bobs to get used up as bedding. Worked a whole lot better than straw as it did not matt down. Cleaned the chicken house out several timse with aluminum scoop shovel.

While waiting for the dew to burn off, I hooked the aerator to the MF8E. Ran it everywhere I could and then did it a second time.
Once the dew was gone I hooked it up behind the mower and ran it again. PIA to back up, but only did that twice.

I have trouble backing up any wheeled attachment on a GT, Rick. I can't turn in the seat and still steer---my neck won't turn far enough---LOL! Good to see your MF8E working! Hopefully you won't see mine working for a long time---LOL!

Not quite. Just like the "balance beads" they use in over the road truck tire, centrifugal force will sling that liquid slime throughout the spinning tire and equal itself out while underway
I got a water in a wheel while trying to cross the Powder river when a rock took out the valve stem and the stupid service station never removed the water. It wouldn't balance while going down the road.

I got the linear installed on my GT235 yesterday. I lifts my plow ok but it drifts down. any ideas on what to do
Linear actuators can be back driven if the weight limit for extended travel is too much. It's stronger for weight at the first 1-inch. As it's driven to extend further, the load limit becomes less.

Additionally, another principle when it back dries is the problem with the standard ACME screw vs. a modified ACME screw.

Did you linear actuator have an inernal brake to stop the back driving? Some of the brands have adjustments to dial in the mechanical brake to prevent the drifting or back driving.

I wish it did. I'm going to look for one

Did some mowing today, although the entire yard still didn't need it. Decided to use that freebie "Gardenway" LT. It's one of those decks that engage when the lift lever is lowered. Don't care for that but evidently I fixed it correctly when I resurrected this tractor for a friend coming on two years ago. The hydro works the same as the GT5000 but the lever is a little stiffer. Engine runs fine and the mowing quality is ok for what it is. Don't hold a candle to the MF12G though. It was about a month ago when I hauled it home and it wasn't starting well. Had bad smelling gas in it and cleaned the carb. It sat since then and fired off fine today with the battery they said was dead. Mowed for about an hour and a half.
