What did you do with your tractor today?

Today I used Frankie to do my own driveway.
Those tall tires were beneficial with their extra ground clearance.
And you gotta love power steering! It would have been better if I hadn't already been driving on the right hand side with the truck.
But at least now Edy can get her car out. There was about a 3 foot drift in front of her door.
I pushed the snow far enough over to leave room for another snowfall if needed.

PVC pipe. It slides right over the top of the gravel, and grass.
Next spring I won't be raking rocks out my lawn.
It doesn't cut into hard packed snow. Such as where I had driven the truck.
But I can drive over that until it thaws.

I've be contemplating putting a piece of 1/2" or 3/4" iron pipe on my blower. I keep my skids set so the blade is an 1/8" off the pavement but I blow a lot of my yard too & the winch is ok but the pipe would allow you to float over the ground. It would have to be pinned for quick removal. Basically do the driveway then pop it on and do the rest.

I would not want apiece of iron pipe floating in front of my blower. Cold PVC will break up and not to much if any damage. Iron pipe ? $$$$$$$ Just my thought on it.

I thought so that’s a good idea. The only reason I don’t plow our driveway is because of it being gravel. I do to a point but always dig gravel up and make a mess.

When I put this drive in 21 years ago I used 3/8" shoulder rock. Boy brought down an portable asphalt packer. couple inches of rock and packed it , another 2" and packed again and another 2-3" and packed one more time. It has stayed solid, have not added any more rock and no bigger rocks to contend with. Have RR ties along one side near the house and block retaining wall on the other.

Several years ago, after reading about the pvc pipe, on the blade like Rick is having good luck with I tried a different approach, using junk that was laying around the shop. It was always the skids that was doing the damage allowing the blade to dig in as well. I took the skids off and built a full length skid from 1-3/4 inch pipe. It has worked real well. Use it moving gravel too. Haven't found a reason to go back to the two round skids yet.

Are those flat brackets on the ends for mounting

Do you coat the Plow with anything so the snow doesn’t stick to it Doug ?

Noel
I never think about it until it's too late, Noel! Maybe some day I will remember to try something.

Yeah, Jim, Just a couple of pieces of 1/4" strap drilled to bolt in the skid mount holes. I think there is about a half-inch spacer too. I capped the ends of the tubing with freeze plugs also.

Give it a quick sanding and spray it with tremclad clear gloss paint. Works great. Give it two coats. Let first coat dry. Then the second coat. One coat a year after. I do my throwers, plows, shovels and my sod Plow. Helps keep the rust off the moldboard.

I will check and see sometime if it's available around here, Noel. If not I'm sure it can be ordered.

Fired up the 1512 Diesel yesterday. Warmed it up good, first time since I put it away for winter storage. It is sold an going to Mn. as soon as I get the sliding door thawed out. Water off the roof settles under the end and freezes the door shut. Have it salted heavy now so in a day or two.

Really started yesterday with hooking a charger on Alice's battery. Changed the oil out this morning and fired her from her slumber. Still sounds good on old gas. Let her run for a bit to loosen the joints some. Later this Spring, she will leave her garage and join the rest so I can use her more. I've missed driving her around!

Had to make the MF8E earn it's keep pushing snow today. It ran flawlessly, and did a great job as usual. It was still windy so using the snow blower on the patio sucked! Face got sandblasted with snow the whole time.

The full length skid pushed almost no gravel out into the grass. This gravel was just laid down last fall so still a bit loose too.
