What did you do with your tractor today?

Hydraulic Suction line - where did the fluid all go - oh no!

Here's a blunder not to get stuck doing. Last fall, I changed the hydraulic fluid. I'm good for a few years, so I thought.

On the throttle side of the YM2610, under the floor foot rest is the suction line for the hydraulics. At the location where the tractor can be split for clutch access, it's joined be a 6-inch hose and 2 clamps. The hose somehow got bunched up and ruptured. A small weeping leak began. When did this all start, I have no idea. I seldom crawl under the machine unless I grease the fittings. I check the fittings come Spring, July 4th weekend and Fall. Upon my recent inspection, the jumper hose was in shreds.

Needless to say, buying any JDM J20C fluid is now very pricey. $30 for a mere 2 gallons.

Here are some tractor porn shots of my girl underneath. Careful she is shy and will be embarrassed if she knew this went out. LOL

The new hose, It's a drain hose segment I had from the washer machine. Fits like a glove. Oh boy!

It says it 'meets' JDM J20C. Here's the good proof.

I’d say that would be hard on a machine to disengage and engage the deck at full throttle. I don’t have any thing that new to have that feature. Thank fully. Hehe.

And tall weeds as Jim says. When it gets hot enough and dry enough here, and no need to cut the grass, grass is sorta short and brown. But the weeds are green and a foot tall, like Jim’s. What’s up with that any way. Why the grass can’t grow and the weeds do ??? I kinda doubt we will have that problem this year. Has not been close to 30C here yet, 25C maybe on some days. And we’ve had a lot of rain. Only 4 weeks or so left that we could get any heat and a dry spell. Starts to cool down a bit by mid August. And morning dews are heavy, by then.

The switch on the Gardenway killed the engine when it was put in reverse with the cutting deck engaged, Noel.

I did some mowing late this afternoon. Didn't have to do the whole yard or the ditch out front. Last cool day for awhile but after over an inch of rain last night, there may be a growing spurt. Mowed with the Bolens/MTD LT. It ran fine but cut quality can't compare to the MF12G.

Uses the FF24 to move the trailer to the field, I didn't want the Durango on the dry grass, hoping the tractor has less weight not killing the grass.
Unloaded the free steel gates my church got rid of....plenty of project potential cutting these up although I may use one on my driveway that goes from road to my barn.

Used the Case 446 to move an old post. Was a heavy old thing. I could barley pick it up at one end. Anyway, Case had no trouble moving it. And dug a few potatoes out of the potatoe patch that I used last year and grassed over this year. About a dozen plants came up. Got about 2 lbs out of it.
Have a good day. 27C here now. Nice.

On the TF forum, someone wanted a flexible top-link for their 3PT. I like robust low cost solutions. A shock absorber is way cheaper than a hydraulic top-link or chains that could go snap to the back of your head.

We had nearly 3 inches of rain. So today I graded the gravel drive again, else pot holes come quickly. So, I made sure to snap a few images of the shock on the tractor before heading out to grade.

So. Because I’m not sure how that would work ? I have to ask !
If I was using my two sod Plow on my 1951 TEA 20 Ferguson tractor, while I’m in a Plow match , how would I adjust it. ? I’m not learned on that stuff. Sounds neat. But I have no idea how that would work.

The gravel blade now uses all it's weight on the stone and not less when it's fully supported but the 3PT. When the blade is dropped to the ground on the gravel with the shock installed, more downward weight energy is transferred. With the 3PT lower arms, the blade is basically dragged.

When the 3PT is raised. The shock is extended causing the blade to have a droop look to it until the shock reaches max travel.

There are no adjustments other than the top-link mount locations on the tractor side. My machine has 4 rungs. You would need to find the perfect length of shock to meet your requirements of use.

And the shock won't come apart in its extended position ?
I'd almost think did would after a while.

As shown in the image, I put the shock on with the dust cover and piston facing the blade. This actually works way better. When the 3PT is raised, the shock is retracted and stronger. It behaves much like a solid top-link. No curling nor drooping of the blade whatsoever.

When using the blade with the shock, going in reverse the blade would bounce and vibrate the tractor on the dusty dry gravel. Not this way, the shock takes the beating instead.

30C here today. Was cutting grass with the MF 16 and the Case 446 was hauling stuff around. And a little rest in the shade.

In the morning the storm blew in, got a few sprinkles and then a 10mins storm. Now it's 92F as well over here.

Its now over two weeks since using the FlatOUT product. Air is holding really well on the tube of the tractor wheel.
Got a patch to still mow, but will wait till Sunday as it would be cooler. By then I can trim up the other pasture the animals had just left too.

Started out working for the wife this morning. She wanted the two burner propane camp stove set up on the back porch to do some canning. The tank was a little light so I grabbed an empty one and went to town for an exchange at Ace Hardware. $16. last year $21. this year. Stopped at the post office to get a book of stamps now they are $12. She needed 3 bell peppers for some squash pickles to cut in rings all ours have been diced from last year. Almost $3. for them. Finally got home an hour later wanted to do nothing today but a big storm coming in around noon so I cut some grass and ran the weed eater for two hours and no rain at all but I’m so glad that’s done. It will probably be a month before I cut and trim that area again. Got a shower around 4:00 and I was done. Thankful for a very productive day.

I really didn’t want to cut grass today it could wait a few more days but we have a lot of rain forecasted all this week. I started out cutting with Hoopdy for about a half hour. It started spitting and missing so I pulled it in front of the shop. I ran out of gas so I filled it up but no start and no spark. Both cylinders dead. I got the Cub LT1050 out to finish up. I don’t see any indication of mice anywhere so I’m hoping a wire problem but will have to wait later to find out.

I got home around 4:30 today and Hoopdy started right up. I cut one of the field grass areas for about 2 hours. This thing ain’t pretty but it sure cuts well. I was afraid to shut it down until I got back to the shop, too late and tired to do any towing. It started right up like it should. When I ride to that field area I drive in the yard parallel to the road or take the road sometimes. I make sure no one sees me driving Hoopdy with a green hood and a red fender pan.

Did some garden work today with the MTD 990. I pulled up the zucchini plants and hauled them to the burn pile. I had a little trouble getting it to idle down. Once I got done I took it back to the shop and seen the governor arm going up and down. I adjusted the governor and it’s fine now. I really enjoy this tractor the 16hp Briggs is such a solid engine with a lot of torque.

Peeked in the shed to see if they were still there. They haven't budged in over 2 Months, Currently in a 90 day burn ban, and water restrictions here. 46 Day's of over 100 temps to boot.
