What did you do with your tractor today?

Got about 3/4 of the yard mowed this afternoon but too much standing water for all of it. Had a doc appointment in the morning. I did the mowing without a usual mid way break as the skies looked like they were about to cut loose all afternoon. It finally did about 15 minutes after I blew the tractor off and got it in the shop. Sure didn't need more rain but got it anyway. MF12G ran great, but the battery has finally given up. It was doing fine with a maintainer on it from week to week but deader than dirt now. Used the booster to get going. It was on the tractor when I got it in 2011 so I would say it did it's service well.

Ive spent two days workin on one of these Simplicity front mowers, the PO was using it as a parts machine because the hydro pump was done... but I have alot of parts for these units so Im gonna re-assemble it. I quite like these mowers, they're like a mini swather, hack down the tall stuff easily and turn almost as tight as a ZT. This one is badged an Agco Allis 1316H with a 16hp Vanguard twin. Had it out for a test drive today.... has a couple elec issues in the steering console so that will have to come apart... another day, maybe two, and it should be back in service;)

I've got one of those in Dueutz "Spring Green", it's had the engine changed with one from a Craftsman mower. Not running, I need to get it going to use as a "butt buggy"!

I really like those front mount mowers. Last one I had was a JD F525 3 wheeled set up. Rough riding as a lumber wagon though. Did not like the way it dug a grove around trees, bushes, etc. after several mowings. That inside drive wheel did not disengage right so unloaded it when I got my Cub diesel up and running. That was the third ZTR, tho it wasn't a true ZTR, I had and didn't like any of them because of that inside wheel side slipping a groove around smaller trees, etc.

I had one of the 525s for a couple seasons, I liked it except that it was a bit awkward to get on/off... and dont recall it ever making a mark. The Simplicity machines are alot easier to get on/off tho so I like them... the ride can be a little rough but I can mow the yard in about 3.5 hrs... with any respectable tractor and belly mower it takes 8. This will be #5 that Ive put together...#1, 2 and 3 sold for quite good money, #4 is still here but has a little 12hp single that smokes alot.... Sunday morning I was thinking that if the 16 in this Agco would run then I would swap it into the smokin Deutz but after checking my parts dept I decided I still had enough bits and pieces to rebuild the Agco aswell.

I keep thinking Im gonna keep one for myself but people offer pretty good money for them, cheapest one Ive sold went for $1400... and the most Ive paid was $500 for 4 in a package deal.

One came with a blower head and rear dump box for a bagger unit but the box makes the tail end too big/wide and restricts the turning radius in/around treed areas

I think they look and work best with wooden railings on the back, that was a factory option and those are easy to build.

Had the LGT 100 out doing some disking. Had the YT16H and estate rake out takin hay. And had the MF 14 and wagon out, picking up the hay.

Both have the off set deck which is a real nice feature I loved. 525 is the 3 wheel version that were rough riding and ever bump that back wheel found you felt. Traction on slopes was real bad and stay away from any fence or building on the down hill side or you would be in it hard. I pulled that thing out of tight spots more than any other machine I had. Was glad to see it go down the road but all of our ground is sloping with very little fairly flat. Never had the 725 but I can see it is a big improvement over the smaller version. Your looking good on there.

The 48" deck on the Simplicity cuts about 8" outside the left tire... traction is a bit of an issue with them aswell but I found that if I add a lift assist spring that will transfer some of the decks weight onto the drive tires and that helps a little bit, with the larger 48" deck I might add two springs,, and of course loading the tires would make a big differance. The lift assist spring also allows me to shorten the excessively long lift handle on the left side which was often getting caught up in the branches when going along side the hedges

I got all the electrical gremlins sorted out yesterday and installed a new battery.
006.JPG007.JPG008.JPG

Todays mission is to go thru the deck and get it mounted, I'll have to check if I still have a belt left for the 48"... if not I do have a complete 42" in good working order I can use until I get a new belt for the 48".... but its green.

I need to get mine running:

No intention of using the deck, just a Butt buggy & for the wife to haul stuff around the yard. I have the seat and Oak slats & stakes cut for the stake-side bed.

Yours has a differant lift mechanism than mine... I like it... mine are all taking up space on the deck beside my left foot.. I dont like it there.

I did got the deck sorted out and put on today so its now complete other than missing a few things like the pulley covers and deflector shute... and missing one hood latch. I expect it will need some fine tuning and may even break down a time or two before I get all the bugs out... now I can start adding some of my 'user addons' that Ive liked having on these rigs in the past... and I still have the complete Deutz 12hp smoker if/when I come across a good motor for it.

I don't run any of the deck covers. Big pain to clean out under them, then the threads strip out and they rattle. Take them off and hang on a nail up high in the machine shed.

Got the EK7 and EK10 out first for a good bath. Run one down to the machine shed and brought the RAM up. Took the other EK down and brought the QT16 up. They both got a good bath and back in the shed ready for loading for the local fair Sunday. Going to be hot they say so may make a short day of it. Come about 3 pm will load and get out of Dodge.

I dont mind the deck covers on these, Can still get an air gun under them and if needed they do come off easy... they will be very easy to build and I might sell this rig in the future so it should have covers on it.

Did a little mowing with it today.... only issue was the chain tension spring jumped off, bent the ends a bit tighter and carried on.... works like a little swather so Im HappyHappy:D

I didn't get to start mowing today until 5:30 due to other stuff getting in the way. First i did go buy a new battery for the MF12G. Runnings had a 235 cca for $29.95+ exchange so I grabbed one while I was getting some flooring supplies. I greased the recently rebuilt deck spindle and the old grease i purged out looked like the new grease I put in. The purge port plug is kinda tough to get back in but maybe some brilliant idea may pop up to simplify that too. I'm just glad it seems to work. Same situation as last week, it looked like the skies were ready to cut loose so I didn't take a break and about 7:30 the tractor was backed into the shop while I was hearing the thunder. About the time I shut the shop door it cut loose for the second time today.

Got my front junk tray mounted today... I built it waaay back when I had the F525 and Ive used it on several of these Simplicitys... have one of those pincher/pickup handles to grab bones, sticks, half eaten golphers/birds compliments of my cats..... and whatever other junk without having to get off the mower....
