What are you currently working on??

Finished up the door install in the side of the shipping container. Son-in-law was up yesterday morning and finished cutting the hole out. Got the trim on the frame and the frame in the hole. Then hung the door and anchored the frame to the container temporarily. I will work for a long time this way but want to weld the angles to the container. Used 6' pieces of 1"x3/16 angle iron vertical screwed to the 2x4 door frame with the angle iron tight against the container wall. This morning I put the stop on and put the keeper in for the door. Put a bathroom window from a trailer house in the end so with it open and the walk in door open will get a breeze through if there is any. Will get some pictures in the morning. Was cool this morning so started about 7:15 to get the walk in door done before it got hot. Some where along the line of moving the wood shop to the container I lost track of the charger for the Makita battery sticks. Cannot located it any where, even looked in the burn pile. Have a new one on the way - be here tomorrow so the old one will show up in the not to distant future.

I hate Onans, I hate Onans.....:mad::mad:

Im about ready to look for a replacement engine or sell this FF, I think this tractor is cursed.
I have had one Onan and it ran good. After about the 5th year it started smoking and got worse fast. I parked it and hasn't moved since. Is in a 1655 Yard Boss by White. Even has full 3 point on it.
They sound like good engines to replace! I've never had one or had to work with one. Both tractors sound worthy of a transplant.

Had a bunch of stuff happening all week it seems. Got home this afternoon from getting a new windshield put in the Denali and then had to do some cleanup in the shop.

I have 36 GTO's to letter---LOL! Got the sticker workbench cleaned so I can get going on this project.

The difficulty level is raised a bit since the cars have already been on the dyno and are organized in the box that way.

No two cars are the same even though there are duplicate body colors. Wheel colors are different. I have to keep track of where they are in the box and put them back in the same hole.

Don't ask me what a slot car dyno is or what those numbers mean---there was no such thing when I was in competitive racing---LOL!

Too bad that's not your garage!!

I will stick to my Tecumseh and even the predators over this Onan. My buddy who has tons of old sears with onans tells me, when they run good, they are great, when they don't then they are a massive headache and usually expensive to fix.

Very expensive to fix since Caterpillar took over Onan a few years ago. A friend had his Dad's mower tractor with an Onan in it. Had the engine overhauled and a single cylinder cost him over a grand. 2 years after he got it back he started to go blind so had to stop using it.

Take a picture or two ?

Getting close to having the wood shop moved. Still need to get the power run. Lot of reorganizing to do yet. Got started putting up outlets. That is some hard steel used in them things. Forget self tapping screws. All they do is make a shiny dimple. Drill an 1/8" hole, then 2 sizes larger, then the screw will self tap and go in and hold. Twisted a couple off. Grind them off and move over an inch and try again. This is along the top edge of the wall. Be 6 outlets and 2- 4' drops off each.

Cummins bought them, mainly for the generator side. You can still get some Onan engine parts from them yet.
Yes they are. I will try Boomer's used onan parts first, then I just do searches. I'm trying to learn other brand parts that are cheaper than will work......like using a Harley Davidson coil or even an older 90's 4 cyl dual coil over the expensive Onan coil.

Back when it was fun, Doug.
Sprayed another gallon of Spectracide in the offensive against weeds today then got some shop time on a tractor. That's in the MF1450 thread.

Yeah Rog, back when I was racing 19 + years ago it was much more low tech. Sold my 6 lane track in 2006. Now they are building those cars with Swiss watch precision. One of the guys racing actually is a jeweler by trade and has a downtown shop! He upped the bar a lot.

Those GTO bodies are 20-25 year old NOS from Model Motoring. The chassis are brand new "TFX" that are based on the design of the Aurora Thunderjets of the 1960's and '70's. The precision and performance consistency is superior to the originals.

The complete car nowadays cost a bit over 30 bucks, compared to $2-$4 for the old T-Jets!

Finally got the FF24 running still has some type of a random miss. I've already replaced points/plugs/ completely cleaned carb and fuel system. Next im going to had a condenser from a GM 454 to see if that helps. It sounds fuel related, but anything may help.
I also welded on the rear scraper blade on my box, poor little 90 amp HF welder just didn't like that thick steel, I even heated it some with the torch. Welds are crappy, but they will hold.

The one the kids and I had were the slot cars. Had the pin on the car and slot in the track to guide it. Cheep made stuff that seemed to always have some kind of problem.
