2" of snow yesterday and the temps stayed in the low teens. Of course the tractor wouldn't start, an hour of messing with it and still no go. So the old shovel got its turn. Usually don't snow around here when it is that cold. And the poor starter would barely spin the engine. Plans were to try again this morning, but it is now In the single digits. I should have a way of warming the engine and battery for when it is so cold. But I would only use the heat once every couple of years. So I haven't bothered setting anything up yet.
 
I set a halogen light by the engine and once it felt warm, the Gravely fired up. I got quite a bit of hard pack snow scraped off the drive. Now the wife won't have a reason to call and tell me how she is stuck in our drive..... Then to fix JR's snowblower, he shredded the belt 3 minutes into using it this week. The belt off the tiller fit so it was a quick fix.
 
and people wonder why I have a tractor with a snow blower, another with a blade, plus an 8hp 2 stage walk behind blower and a 4 hp 2 cycle paddle single stage blower PLUS the shovels....
 
I do both. Bought a new one and wonder how soon it will break and then run the old ones too and see what will break next.

It's all a crap shoot! Gotta love em all. Even when they break.

I dont even have a plow on a tractor. Dad usually puts 3 plows on just incase or he likes using a different tractors. He likes using the cub original to plowm. He says it's fun...

This year even he didnt bother...we have had one snow that could be plowed if you wanted to.

It's such a shame when you can do a crime, then get a free public defender. But try to do something so great like give a child a wonderful home, and it costs you thousands of dollars. This system is so jacked up beyond belief!
 
Dealing with a pair of juvenile delinquents this week. Frustrating to try to keep from losing my cool and wanting to use a size 13 to plant wisdom in the seat of understanding.FB_IMG_1551034334516.jpg
Except they were both in their mid thirties and never were responsible. The authorities are so harsh and unnecessarily strict. Hmm, not any tougher than I would expect them to be with me if I stepped outside of the law. Second generation addicts, never knew any different.
 
I've been dealing with all these trainees that we are hiring. 18 to 25 mostly. It scares me. These "kids" have no sense of responsibility, work ethic, and anything that makes you a contributing member of society.

I find out as I get to know these guys they didn't have any strong figure when they were growing up. No one taught them anything. The ones that make it, me and the other guy that run the training program have become father figures to them. They call us for advice on things unrelated to work. I helped one trainee get a loan for a truck (not in a money way, just helped him figure out who to talk to, and how to go about the process) He said no one has ever helped him with anything before.

I am however super proud of 2 of them right now. Today after a year in the program they have passed their electrical exams and in 2 weeks start their careers at the mine with the company, both were offered very nice starting salaries
 
So true, Aaron. Its a lost generation in the work force. Too many sperm donors and too few dads. Or dads that can't teach a son how to be a do it yourself man and care for your things. Because they were never taught.
I just saw what looked to be a mid thirties guy in a fast food parking lot watching AAA change his flat tire. Reminded me of a guy who spent too much of his life playing video games and little reality. If you are middle aged male and can't change a tire, you shouldn't have a car.
 
My opinion is that any young person that has a brush with the law, failing grades or drops out or school gets a free ticket to Uncle Sams Army for 2 years. They will come out a different person and the tax payers won't have to pay for their continued bad decisions. 4 years never hurt me one bit and never talked to a past military person who said it did. Yes, the tax payers will pay for their training but better than paying for their defense lawyer.
