Just had to do it.

Gave the tractor another pressure wash to clean up all of the hydraulic oil. My Steiner order came in that had the new radiator hoses, so I pull the Rad to make it easier. Found a pile of rust on top of the thermostat and got that cleaned out. Put the hoses on and installed the rad and sheet metal. I think its ready to go to the tractor show which starts Wednesday and features Farmall tractors. I think my brother and his grandson are taking the Farmall H and Super C.
What tractor show you talking about?
Don

Pulled the tires off of the rims. Rims look good. Glad they didn't have calcium in them.

Took some time yesterday evening to see if I could remove the exhaust manifold from the cylinder head for the John Deere BO. Used a combination of heat, sandblast cabinet, Kroil, a variety of prying tools, and a dead blow hammer. Took a while to get it to start moving but finally I got it removed. The exhaust manifold is in good shape so I'm glad I didn't break it during removal. When those studs rust they can sure lock these manifolds in place. Looks like I will need new studs and nuts and the head should be milled to clean it up. Need to get my cheaters out and get a good look at the valve seats.

So have you run the 230 very much how is it starting and running now
Yes, it's been run enough to get things checked out. Ran every day at the tractor show to go thru the parade. Started good and the charging system is working well. I still need to check compression now that it's been running but when cranked by hand it feels pretty even. I pulled the plugs, and they are an even color on all 4 cylinders with no sign of fouling. It doesn't smoke while running and holds good oil pressure even when hot. I need to look into the brake's because one work's and the other doesn't. Same thing on our Super C. They have the disc brake system on them that are known to have some problems when they get older, but they can be rebuilt. I asked at the show, but nobody had any decent used tires in the size I need so my only option is new.

Back on post #44 there is a pic of our Farmall C that I took the wheels off for the 230. We decided to see if we could get it running. I pulled the carb last week and got it cleaned up and a new bowl gasket installed. My brother touched up the points and pulled the fuel tank to pressure wash the crud out. I rinsed it with acetone last night and it was installed this morning. Topped off the coolant and hydraulic system oil. Took the 6V battery out of the 230 and hit the starter. It fired up in just a couple revolutions and ran well. Oil pressure was good also. This tractor has some noise in the transmission. Sounds like it is coming from the input shaft bearing. When you push in the clutch the noise stops. When I get the new tire for the 230, I will put the tires and wheels back on the C. With a little work it should be a decent tractor.

I looked at some old pics and we brought this tractor home on 2/09/2013. Hopefully we will get it to where we can use it soon.

Epoxy primed the 230 wheels and hope to paint in the next day or two. Got a call that the new tires are in. I may need to start a Go-Fund-Me page to pay for them.

Picked up my new tires today. This is the same place that holds the auction where I bought the tractor. While we were there, we had to check out the next items up for auction. I need to stop doing that because I always find more stuff that I need.

Good looking tires, will look great on the tractor. Stuff you need or stuff you want, CJet---LOL!

Stuff I want but really could use. There is a 14.9 x 38 Firestone field and road tractor tire that would be an exact match for one that I have on my Minneapolis Moline UTS Special so I guess I could say I need it. Another is a non-Operable Gibson tractor that has brand new 8.3 x 24 tires that will fit on our Farmall Cubs or the Economy tractor. Also, a pair of non-matched 16.9 x 38 tires that would look good on my MM UTS special. Then there is a JD 277 non-operable lawn tractor that has an engine that I think I could salvage. I already have a JD 277 that had a blown engine but came with the mower deck and bagger. If I could get a running engine, I think I could put it back together. Dad is looking at a Craftsman combo belt/disc sander and a non-operable John Deere F935 that he would like the engine out of. Usually things go higher than we want to bid but you never know.

My new water temp gauge for the 230 arrived today. Had to get some more paint for the wheels. Some old paint that I normally use had a loose lid and hardened up. Wonder who left the lid loose. Decided to try some of the Case IH Irongard silver paint.

That's what I usually find at auctions. People who want things a lot more than I do.

Sprayed the rear wheels. By the time I cleaned up my gun the paint was just about tack free. The can says 60 to 90 min. until dry to the touch. I put a little hardener in this also.
