What are you currently working on??

Got the White 1655 fired up this morning. Hasen't ran since last fall some time. Old L head Briggs was a bit stuborn but finally fired off. POil change, grease job, adjusted the steering, oil up the hydro slide and it is ready for fall work. Got a new battery for the 4 wheeler. Old one was 4 years old and would not take a charge any more.

First I made the mistake of breaking a welder tip in Walbro carb vent,,its not coming out followed by banging it on workbench to loosen that welding tip and causing more damage…This carb was on a Coleman 1000 generator….ordered new carb after a couple hours.
you mean One of those too cleaners? I've busted off more than my share even when using them for what they were actually made for

I did however get my fridge running on propane in my motor home so we can go boondockin’,,,I’m not familiar with this stuff but learning
that pic is RV Porn,,,means cold beer!!!View attachment 40689
Mine decided not to work on propane when I went camping in July. Last weekend we just ran it off of 110v. Mine is 3 way, seems to run it's best on propane. And 12v really sucks the juice.

I bought solar panels to keep batteries charged while running on propane.

Warranty ran out on my Black and Decker 40V weed wacker 2 weeks after the 3 year warranty expired…opened up motor housing to find a broken contact. How the heck do they plan this? Soldered and running!

Engineered obsolescence, Jazz! Our new trailer house had a "6 year" water heater in it. 6 years and one month it sprung a leak causing a bit of water damage. Replaced it with a "12 year" one. Couldn't find ones that would work with any longer of a warranty. 12 year one is due to fail in 2024!

Had to move the Yazoo out of the way as a customer brought 2 mowers over. Gonna do an engine swap. Will be fun putting a Kohler OHV in place of the B&S on the JD D100. Wiring will be the biggest issue since JD is so protective over their wiring diagrams.

It’s a programmed microscopic solenoid that released the soldered joint right after the warranty. Lol

JD is so protective over their wiring diagrams.
As soon as JD got protective of their service information I walked away from them and haven't looked back. Their products may still be good but their customer support is not. The only support they supply now is to their own service depts. I wonder where they would be today if they had tried pulling that stunt back in the 1960's when the 2 cylinder tractors were phased out?

Having worked at a dealership for little over half a year, not all their products are good, like any other corporate entity, the number crunchers took over.

What products are bad?

My neighborhood is full of x series and zero turns. Everyone seems happy with those. Everyone I know with a subcompact seems happy.

Only unhappy customers I've met own E or D series products.

I took a yard cart that no one ever uses and turned it into a cart for hauling grand kids. (And the wife)
Removed the dump bed and fastened the tongue solidly to the framework . Added a couple pieces of rectangular tubing for spacers.
Then fit up an old bus seat frame and cushions. Added a piece of angle iron covered with stick on tread. Since I had plenty of
brown paint on the shelf it got a coat of "Brown Leather " paint. Cleaned up the wheels and its good to go.

The D and E models are pretty much made to compete with the "box store specials" There have been issues with some sub compact and compact units. Today I started working on the second 3 series that has come in for repairs to the three point controls. There are two control rods that stick out of the three point valve. Over time these rods start to rust where they come out the valve, and then jam up. There is no bushings or lubricant to these rods, so once they lock up, you need to remove the valve and then the rods. Some anti seize compound applied to these rods at the assembly line would go a long way to mitigating this issue. There are issues on other products. I'll stick with my pre ninety's classics.

I was tired of messing with the 6 hp Tecumseh go kart engine that was in the Massey Executive 8E.
It got removed and replaced with a Predator 8 hp engine from Harbor Freight. What looked to be a plug and play installation became a little more involved. The engine had to go as far forward as possible and as far to the left as possible and still fit under the hood. Then I had to do a little custom work on the clutch/brake lever since it wanted to hit the rear of the engine. I had to replace the crank pulley to one with a 1" center. I bought one with a weld in center. Then put it in the lathe to remove excess material so it could go as close to the engine as possible. There is still a slight
misalignment between it and the idler pulley on the clutch/brake lever but I can live with it. It all fits under the hood and looks decent. It is recoil start but it starts VERY EASILY. First time fired up I didn't pull the rope 2 inches and it was running. After routing the throttle cable and changing the kill switch to the dash we are off and running. Since the end of the crankshaft was spinning next to my big toe and the regular belt cover didn't fit I formed a bracket around an old breather cover and mounted it. It serves its purpose well.

I think that’s the way it is with everything now. No matter what color or brand we really don’t know what we are buying.

Now that’s a hood full. I’ve never heard anything bad about these Predator engines. The best comments are how well they start up. Gods job Rick!

Installed one of those 8hp Predators on tiller this summer and it has worked out great. So easy to start and far quieter then the old Tecumseh. My only complaint is the starter rope could be longer as I seem to dead end it quite often.
