What are you currently working on??

Finished up the first coat of mud on my sons drywall job. He’s going to put the second coat on today if he can or this evening. I’m going back over on Sunday and put the third coat on. After this I have to install ship lap on one wall and once THEY paint I’ll do the trim.

I was all over the place today. I started out with some much needed early morning porch time. I checked on our onions and plan on planting three more rows tomorrow. I took a ride on the four wheeler for awhile to spot out a wild blooming tree I like. I found two younger ones near by that I want to up root this Fall to plant near the house.

I spread out 100lbs of play sand to dry for some sand blasting later.

I mowed one of my field areas for the first time this year. The free Cub a got last year is working out nice. Most of the grass was 10” high but this thing mowed without a grunt. I had to roll and condense some of the dead cedars I cut last year before cutting the grass. I’ll be mulching this stuff up once I get the other pile cleaned up.

I started to spray some weed killer around the perimeter of the garden but it started spewing out behind the handle so I’ll have to fix that tomorrow. I got a shower around 4:30 just in time to eat and relax the rest of the day.

Those are good mower decks. Carolyn uses a 1018 that has been re-motored to a Briggs 18 hp. We leave the chute off so it throws the grass a lot further and don't windrow it. Only thing I don't care for is the reverse pedal & need seat belts to stay in the seat. Going to buy her a new seat this spring.

LGT 165 Ford developed a leaking head gasket. Been leaking for a while. So changing that and she’ll be ready for tilling. Been about 7 years since I put rings and stuff in it. And has not been used a great amount since. Snow throwing and tilling. Doesn't do any grass cutting any more. But still have the 50” deck if needed.

I make my own "K" head gaskets with 16oz copper.... much more reliable.

Finally cleaned up the pine tree mess in the backward. Filled my ranger heaped over the cab with limbs. Fired my chain saw up for the first time since 2020. 3 pulls. I swear by that premix gas in a can.

bought some concrete crack sealer to replace some bad sealer in between the sidewalk and foundation. This should help with the trickle of water I get in one corner of the basement.

then Moved grass and sprayed for weeds. Hard to believe it’s only 1! I’ve been making good time.

Working on a couple Toro Recycler mowers for a lawn service. He buys them at Home Depot I think. Had to put a new 'plastic' carb on one, he took it home yesterday. The other is an AWD, think the rear end is wore out in it. $100 + labor to replace it. I'll know more tomorrow.

I've been intermittently working /cussing on the Elec-Trak E12S.
I've been studying the trouble shooting charts and schematics. It will need a new main disconnect. This one doesn't always allow voltage to flow through consistently. A downstream circuit breaker is faulty. Even after bypassing them I can only get the motor to run by by-passing the solenoids and going direct through the resistors. Everything points toward needing a new control card. The solenoids/relays and speed switches all function
and carry voltage to their proper destinations. I have a new control card, disconnect switch and drive belt ordered and should be here Monday. (maybe).

Owner opted to not fix it at this time. On to other things.

Was going to repair a crack in the old home made lawn roller. Carolyn mentioned it had a crack in it last fall some time. Plled it out today and yep it had a crack all right. About 18" long and about 2" wide in the center. Beat he!! out of it for a bit and didn't budge it. Goes to the scrap pile. Made from an old roller off an AC round hay baler. Worked good for a few years but got to remember to drain them when through using.

My old hand sprayer broke for good the other day. I took it apart and the inside of the handle which is a cylinder that holds the filter has two bad cracks in it. I might try to epoxy that. I’ll miss this one. I had to destroy my favorite metal one from Sears that had a serious recall back in the 90’s that I was never informed about. They had a tendency to blow up and a few reports of shrapnel in legs and arms. They earned customers to destroy them immediately and get a refund but that didn’t help me. All it needed was the leather gasket on the pump. I bought a brand new never used hand sprayer made by Echo on Market Place last year for $20. so I’m glad I bought that. I also have the backpack type from Harbor Freight that is good but everything is plastic so it won’t last long.

I upgraded the drum brakes on my mini bike from the worn out Chinese pads to some EBC pads. The Chinese pads were completely gone and the drum glazed pretty bad.

I sanded the drum and put the new shoes on. What a difference. I can lock up the rear wheel if I want to and it actually stops again! I’m surprised the Chinese shoes lasted as long as they did. I wish the bike I had an odometer on it. I bet it has a couple thousand miles in it. It’s on its 3rd set of tires.

Also found the rear wheel bearings are going bad. So I ordered a 12 pack of bearings to have spares.

I’ve done that a couple times ordering bearings as a 12 pack. It’s not that expensive compared to just ordering what you need like a pair.

it was 9.99 for 12 6202RS 15mm ID off Amazon. Or 2.59 each (plus shipping) off the company I usually buy my mini bike parts from. Same brand. Some Chinese brand but I’m ok with that. These should fit the jack shaft and the wheels front and rear.

figures these bikes are metric axles. I have a ton of 5/8” ID 1-1/8 OD bearings from vintage bikes.
