What are you currently working on??

put a deck onto the Ariens S-16H, that I just swapped the engine into, that came out of the burnt out carcass that I had bought for its snowblower.
1st time that I have mounted a deck onto one of these (and I have 4 of them) my NH came with deck already in place, never took that one off yet..... gonna have to one of these days to check the belt and sharpen the blades, etc
Deck I put under the S16, is greased and ready for action this season.... and that deck came to me with what looks like new blades, paint not even worn off.
now onto my Cub cadets... 1 mostly complete 129 (my favorite series of IH Cubs) along with a skeleton 129, that has a few goodies left on it, and an engineless 1650 that will donate its hydro lift and all associated components to the 129's cause.... I couldn't find a narrow base K341 last year for it, gave up trying/ would cost me more to source parts elsewhere for adding hyd lift to the 129, than I was asking for the whole rolling chassis last year (and didn't get a single inquiry) got the pair of 129s home last weekend, needed my son's help to load the 1650 (I had previously robbed 3 of the tires and wheels for something else) got that one home today and just starting to figure out what all will need swapped from the 1650 to finish the job, and looking also to see, of those parts that I have 2 or 3 of, that will interchange between these 3 machines, which ones are the best, gonna cannibalize the best of all 3, into that 129..... engine runs great/ so why not.....
only issue with the "mostly complete" 129, is the hydro handle is stripped, and even when it does grab, I can't seem to get it out of "forward" range, no neutral, even..... had to yank the driveshaft so the starter generator would crank the engine without the tractor trying to lunge forward while cranking.
remnants left after getting what I need off of the 2 parts machines, will be "up for grabs"...…

in the meantime, a lot with a 26X36 garage and no house on it, recently popped up for sale a mile from home, also has a ~12x16 shed in back corner/ the house that used to be there, blew up (literally) about 15 years ago, from a nat gas leak..... I asked about this lot back then, was told owners' kid was wanting to "do something" with lot, was considering rebuilding on same lot. still nothing been done, the 2 buildings left are falling into disrepair, looking at this for "cold storage" once building repairs (mostly roofs and eaves) are done.... owner's kid now the one who posted for sale....
I have free storage now but 30 miles away,,,, I know, real answer would be "get rid of my junk" (tractors and 2 old cars) but where would the fun be in that? talking over possibilities with my son, of us getting this lot.... just thinking out loud at the moment...…and with another lot to mow, more seat time plus would justify keeping at least 3 tractors then between home and there...…this lot is ~1/3 acre, just like the lot my house sits on.

Finished working on the edger, good thing I checked the oil. I guess float stuck open and crankcase had gas in it, oil was about as thin as water. Got everything back together, adjusted governor and did a test run. Now to call customer to pick it up.

I also helped son work on his new to him 1978 Ford F350 dually. He wanted an old work truck, well he got an old truck he has to work on....Fix Or Repair Daily
Guy shafted him, told him he had replaced a bunch of parts, my son is now replacing those same parts. It has a flat bed on it now, but we have deteremined it was an old wrecker. It has a line lock, bunch of controls in cab, PTO on tranny, and wires going everywhere. Hopefully it will be running this weekend.

Do you think the carpet caused the rot? I should of taken pictures of my 99. Had a ford plastic bed liner in it for 20 years now. Floor inside is in mint condition, the rust on mine is all the cross braces underneath but not the floor of the bed itself.

Carpeting holds water and moisture and that will cause rusting and metal rot but if your bed is good, not the case. I would guess it was road grim (AKA salt) that is rusting out the under side where it is real hard to get washed off. I do not like or want the plastic bed liners. Cannot hold anything in place with them. Anything you put in the bed will slide all over before you get very far. My Avalanche has the heavy rubber mat on the bed floor. Can place anything on it and it stays put. With the sectional hard cover it stays dry in the bed also.

Hard to say Aaron, what caused the rust in that area. But the carpet would stay wet longer than a plastic bed liner, and as Roger says, the road dirt and salt, then I still think undercoating holds water and salt there because the water and salt stick to the undercoating.

Undercoating must be put on when the vehicle is new, clean and dry. And it must be done right. Undercoating goes on top of what ever it there, be it moisture, dirt, salt or what ever. I have only seen it applied once, to anew car and many, many years ago when I was kid. The guy was putting in on hot with the car up on a hoist and all 4 door open. Lots of brown paper and masking tape cover a lot of painted body parts, wheels were off, door plugs were out, etc. Any foreigh naterial that get on the undercoated part once the undercoating drys will be protected, al long as you don't drive on a gravel road which will remove the undercoating fast. Have no idea if the outcome helped or not.

That sounds like the proper way to do it, Roger. but I doubt that happens to very many cars. Around here, fall is the time people get there vehicles done. mostly October. So by then the dampness is in the vehicle. Around here the only real dry time is from about July 1 to August 15.

I don't know of any place that does it any more. Lot of times the dealer will have the car washed when it shows up on the transport. From then rust starts to form.

I’m going to try and fix the box on my ford ranger. It’s very rusty and the frame of the box broke beside where the box bolts to the frame. So I’m not sure how I’m going to fix it yet. Broke where the pry bar is.
That’s this weeks project. Checked the frame yesterday and it’s very good. I was worried truck frame was gone too. Realy need to find a rust free box. Hehe. Good luck on that one around here.
Any way, I’ll try and fix as best as I can. Plastic gas tank right there too. So welding might be out.
Truck works perfect, to bad they rust away. Was undercoated a few times. But I think that’s part of the cause maybe. Seems to hold the water and salt on there.
What are your ideas on fixing the box and my thoughts about the undercoating.

Noel

I had a '79 ford that had rotted crossmember under box and large rotted spot on box floor from a sheet of drywall being left there. I lifted box, replaced crossmember with 2" tube stock and welded a 4'x8' sheet of 3/16 checkerplate steel in. Sounds like a lot of work but it was only a weekend. I cut rot out, only way to deal with it or you'll be back at it again later. I had picked the truck up dirt cheap because it was ugly but other wise solid and only 52K original miles, bone stock 300, 3 on the tree and manual steering as well as manual brakes and radio delete.
Make sure drain holes are not plugged, drill them out larger is best IMO

Been working on getting the original walbro lme working on the st10 Sears. Got it running. Adjust it. It idles fine. Throttle it up runs fine. Idle down wont idle. Throttle up wont run. Readjust carb. Works fine. Change throttle position wont run.

I'm at a loss.

Didn't take any work but got the Troy Built Super Tomahawk chipper Shredder out this afternoon. Hasen't seen sunshine for 2 years or more. Drained what little gas was in the tank and nothing in the carb as it was run dry. Plug looked good, fresh fuel, turned the gas on and gave it a pull and it was running. Gosh I love gasohol ! :p ;)

I like using the Krown undercoating, if you spray it on a "damp" lol piece of steel you'll eventually see it wick the moisture away from the steel. Like you said it's not usually dry here very long, The cheaper petroleum ones will swell rubbers & leech through plastic from the inside out & bubble paint if it happens to get sprayed on the back side if it. Like you said it's not usually dry here very long, I personally started undercoating mine twice a year because I do my own. I've seen many cars both done & not done & there is definitely a difference. I kinda let my old truck slip a bit as it got older & you sure seen the difference fast, that's kinda of why I started doing this truck from new, plus it's some cash on the side lol.

Friday I worked on two machines. I took the tie rod off the Power King 1614 to rebuild and shorten to get the alignment correct.
Then I took the hyraulic return line off the ampib (LTV KID 8x8) to find the source of a slow oil leak. The source was found, the one end of the return line was clamped to pipe thread fitting instead of a barb fitting, so now to install a barb fitting and that will be fixed. Best way to describe working on that amphib is to drop a tractor in a bathtub and try to change the oil, good luck lol.

I used Krown undercoating on my Chev celebrity station wagon. Place in Charlottetown use to do it. The wagon all rusted away. Worked great. Had 373,000 kilometres on it at the end.
Any way. The ford ranger still doesn’t look to bad. Works great.

Glad you got the truck where it will serve you longer Noel @Propane1!

Came down with a cold yesterday but still got some stuff done in the shop today. I think the old MF8E is ready to earn it's keep for now too. Long range forecast says I may need to plow again Wednesday or Thursday after work. 5" possibly again. Unfortunately one of the new axle seals still leak. Grass is growing too fast so the cutting deck overhaul on the MF12G will be on hold. I better get the deck back on tomorrow.

Friday night helped son get new gas tank in his Ford F350. Sunday helped him get it fired, he drove it up the road. Has a stalling problem, i think idle circuit maybe plugged as I had to set idle screw up to keep it running.....too fast.
Did a service on a JD L110 I was given, planning using it to mow with and see how long the tuff torq K40 lasts in my hills.

Saturday I redid the grape barber and blackberry area. I got an old wooden ext ladder from my uncle 20 yrs ago, but it was in too bad of shape to use as a ladder so I cut it up and use it. I hate it, but had to put lattice around the bottom, 2 dogs that dig and will chew the plants.
