What are you currently working on??

That is why I went with vinyl siding and vinyl windows 20+ years ago. Went with white as white is always white no mater how old it gets. Next time the facia boards could use paint they will get covered. Will have to paint the containers. Kind of hard to put siding on them and make it stay.

Been working on a 3T floor jack Carolyn picked up for $10. Didn't work. Low on oil, to heavy oil and had moisture in it to mess up the valve plus missing a minor part. Supposed to be a spring type fastener to connect the valve to the pump pin. It was gone. Got it jerry rigged with wire, air bled out and full of ATF and working good. Need to find the right side handle extension for it.

I've got what used to be a damn good floor jack that hasn't been lately.

It pumps up and as soon as I raise the handle for another stroke it falls the distance it raised with the previous stroke. There used to be a guy who worked on them in his garage as a side gig up where I grew up, but he isn't around anymore. I don't want to throw it away id like to fix it.

Today I got my truck frame painted. It's been at my son's house since I had it blasted and primed, been wanting to get out there and do this for at least a month. Either we have had something else going, or it was too windy, something.
I painted with an HVLP type of gun for the first time.
I know I didn't have the gun set right, but it worked. I was a little Leary about it going in but it worked. Came out good.
I ran the paint that Sherwin Williams recommended over the particular primer that was used, and damn it was expensive.
Off the street it's over $500 a gallon with the quart of hardener. I got it for a lil over half price thanks to a neighbor who uses to work for them.
I wish I'd of had him get the recommended thinner for me at the same time.
I went and got that, it's "only" $60/gallon. I bought 2, used less than a half of one, wonder if they'll take the 2nd unused gallon back...
That paint went a long way. Don't know if it's because of being "high solids" or if it was the type of paint gun I used
I mixed just a quart in a gallon ish plastic bucket, to start with, added the 8 oz of "part B" and the recommended 15% by volume of thinner. So 46 oz total of paint, when added together. I went and went and went some more before I ran out. I almost had enough with that, I mixed another 8 oz of paint plus part B and thinner and that got me done. I sure wouldn't have thought that.
I'm glad I didn't just mix up the whole gallon to start off with or the remainder would be scrap right now.

I did miss one small spot that got overlooked, (the bottom of 1 cross member) I'll get that once it dries and I get it home
I set it on 2 sawhorses (surprised they held)! My son was able to barely pick up one end at a time for me to set a horse under, with his Kubota
He's on 2+ acres, has an acre on each side of the house.
I set it in the middle of one of those acres and had plenty of room around me to allow for any over spray/ of which I had surprisingly little.
I brought the old Binks #7 with me as a backup just in case.
150' from the compressor in the garage. It took 3, 50' hoses coupled together to reach my work area.... Those rear springs, and all the ball joints, tie rods, sleeves, bushings and brake parts are sitting here waiting to go on once I get it home.

The owner of the local mower shop stopped by and left me a box blade. During a pickup/delivery he snagged a freebie box blade. The P.O. had left it sitting out for a few years on it’s back. The blade was corroded and the pivot pin was froze in place. He didn’t have time to fix it and offered o pay me to do it.
Some liquid wrench and a BFH finally got it apart.

After a lot of cleaning and paint it went back together.
This is going to his 14 year old son so I didn’t charge him anything.
Although I did find some cash on the workbench after he left.

While I had the box blade apart i made templates to replicate it. I took two Craftsman snow blades, cut down the height and welded them together. Doubled up the backing plate also. Made up end plates from thicker material, and the main beam from some thick wall square tubing. Rigged up a pivot handle from scrap . Made a pivot pin from a solid dumbell handle. Made a 1/2” thick ripper bar with 1/4” thick teeth. Ct out several templates to find the angles I wanted for the teeth.
Got most of it done yesterday. Made the ripper bar today. Waiting on the paint to dry. Final assembly tomorrow.

Could be the valve not working. Probably be in the bottom on the pup0mrod, the one that goes up and down with the handle. Never had them out as haven't had issues with them. ON the down stroke that valve is to open and force oil into the jack chamber. On the up stroke it should close and fluid from the reservoir goes in to the piston for the next stroke. At least that is the way I understand the way they operate but could be wrong.

I've got 3 old Jack's that used to be good jacks. The rebuild kits cost more than a new 3 ton HF jack so they sit in the corner.

I hate to but I might wind up scrapping that jack but I got one that works out of mom and dads garage when we emptied the house earlier this year... With having the 2 post lift in my garage I use a floor jack alot less than I used to. Usually only when I have the lift tied up and have something that I "have to" do that can't wait for me to get done with whatever is on the lift. Once I get my truck frame home it'll be tied up for a few days anyway.other than while I'm actually working on it (new brakes and suspension all the way around while it's otherwise bare) I'm gonna keep it a roller just so I can use the lift when I need it while I wait for the body to get out of paint shop jail

Once I get the suspension work, the brake work and the gas tank re hung then I'm onto building the motor and fabbing a cross member for the trans that I plan to use... They didn't have this trans out yet when this truck was new. Unless I can find a trans cross member for a 92/93 model (same body as this one except for the grille) that did use a 5 speed stick, that is ...

Cleaned up a couple gun I have used the past week. Son-in-law is coming over this Saturday to zero in a couple that have only been bore sighted. That should get them on paper any way. Got the M-16A1/22 about 3" low at 30 yds. Hoping it will stay some low at 50 yds as the front sight is froze and will have to lower that post with a file to get it on target. Has two peep sights, one for up to 50 and the other for long distance. Might prove interesting.

Put it together this morning. Hooked on the back of my 1277 with the belly blade.
Next thing will be to get a snow blade ready.

Doesn't look like it needs any work, Lowell! Nice tractor!

You guys have really stepped up the projects while we were out of town! DT's truck is looking great so far, Rick is knocking it out of the park fabricating attachments and Rog has been busy getting tractors running and working on his guns!

I'm afraid anything I have to post is too menial---LOL!

Thanks!

Rear tires are badly weather cracked, I'll probably replace them this winter. I will move the drivers seat back some & add flag holders, not much else.

The body that's going on that frame is in sandblaster mode before it heads to paint jail.
The blaster guy sent me a few pix of small parts done like the wheel wells and core support, sent him 2 tailgates which he mentioned that there was a lot of Bondo in one, hiding dents not rust... That was last Wednesday or Thursday, as of then he was supposed to be doing the cab and bed today.... But no news yet.
Once I get that frame home (my son has a bigger trailer than me) and the suspension rebuilt, then I will pull the engine apart for it's trip to the machine shop.
